Re: Gibson Amps, someone educate me

As the only schematics that I could find for the '52 -> '54 were poor, I hand-traced and made my own. I tried to make it look as close as possible to the original schematic.

Re: Anyone build a stereo guitar amp with 3 OTs ?

Though I've never built this amp, I have an original GA-78RVT. You could model something from it. You could also do something like the configuration that I've included, for a little stereo guitar amp that I plan to put in an old radio chassis of mine, with an internal speaker, and two external speak...

Re: My shop burned down

Mike - It is a Blessing that your family is safe, and that you could get as much warning as you could. When you are at a point (weeks, months) where you can begin an inventory of what you had (particularly, your most used tools), I'm a scrounger. My wife and I love to do antique shopping, and tools ...

Re: custom chassis

I have purchased from Terry Naugler at Seaside Chassis, in Nova Scotia. I send a PDF drawing of what I want, and he fixes me up: http://www.seasidechassisdesign.com/ His chassis' are folded and screwed. There was a discussion recently of my other source, Dirty Dawg Amps in the States, saying that hi...

Re: buying resistors

Steve - Though it's not my thread, I wouldn't think that it would be considered a hijack. It's a very good discussion. Though looking back now, I can see that Mark was really wanting an opinion for CF sources. So, I probably was the original hijacker. I'll refrain from any but discussions of source...

Re: Cloning a circuit

The only two clones that I've built are a couple classics. 5C1 and 5C2. Champ and Princeton. Never got past the chassis', on either build. But, I liked them well enough that I built a combination, employing one SE power section, but feeding it with a pre-amp from both. What a nice little amp. Then, ...

Re: buying resistors

I see nothing with using cf resistors, or metal film. That's another side of the coin. Best regards, Steve PS Hooray for carbon comps. Steve - Good argument for both. I, too, will continue to use my CC on any of the old amps that I have a fondness for resurrecting. When I posed the question over on...

Re: New Old Guy

Ok. The Swan has begun it's journey back to the living (I hope). It's on the lamp limiter for awhile. I'll tend to some other amp projects, in the meantime, and swap from the 25 watt to a 40 watt, in a little while. More to come.

Re: New Old Guy

Well, it's a Swan 700CX with 117XC Power Supply. This thing is intimidating. And, there was a manual stored under it, but I still downloaded a manual. There was an MFJ 407D Keyer and an Astatic DN-50 microphone and stand. It's the same stand as the one I have with my D-104 mic, and I did not check i...

Re: New Old Guy

That Swan should be a great rig. You should check the PS filter caps if it's been sitting idle that long though. Does it have TV sweep tubes for the final amp? It's been sitting idle for years, some before I got it. As the PS is separate, I'll give it attention, first. As to the tubes, I'll have to...

Re: New Old Guy

I just went out to the shop yesterday, looking for the IC-726. I'm at the age of self-doubt, so I'm now doubting that I ever had one. At least, it's not to be found. But, I did take a close look at the Swan. I've never been on the air with a tube radio before. It really looked appealing. I may drag ...

Re: New Old Guy

I was never able to get the code down for a beginner license. I understand now that you don't have to be fluent in code to get a license anymore which is good. But code is always a good thing to know. :D I learned it the hard way, and will probably use the same old study tapes to do it again. My wi...

Re: New Old Guy

Jack, let me know when you are up & running, and we can get on the air and try it out. Well, as it turns out, there's a fellow tube guy over on the Hoffman Amp forum that is getting more than interested in obtaining his ticket. He goes by the handle Richie200. Here's the thread that he bumped back ...

Re: Extra wide board material.

I just ordered 12 of each sized board I use from eplastics - cost was about $250 so a little more than $5 per board Compare that to watts prices and it's a no brainer Thanks for the source. I bookmarked it, and will definitely be buying from them. Here's the link for others: http://www.eplastics.co...
