Re: Hand built using the best components.............
And here's the same amp being used by another band----- the white, rectangular thing sitting on top of the 4x12, 2x12 stack of speaker cabs---- no pedals used just the amp turned up to "10"---- The tone sounds fuzzy and flabby to me but this band, and many others, seemed to like it---- This amp was ...

Re: Hand built using the best components.............
Here's a vid of one owner of a Bogen CHB35A Plexi rebuild I did long ago sitting in with a local band------ the white head sitting on a 2x12 cab, 2nd from left. This is the amp I bought back just to keep people from using it out in public because it is ugly and it doesn't reflect the work I do now. ...

Re: Hand built using the best components.............
What a mess !!! Amp build looks like some of the earliest Bogen PA head rebuilds I did------ mix of used and new components, sloppy wiring/soldering------ Everybody has to go through some sort of learning curve when building amps but being proud of work like this is a strange thing. I hope the amp d...

Re: As the Capacitor Turns
Amazing----- ----- I suppose it gives some people something to do------ But which ones to stock !!?? The "real" former Sozo's (now being sold under a different name) or the NEW Improved Super-Duper caps that are made by a completely different company with different manufacturing specs ? Whic...

Re: PT question for a 50watt JCM800
I've found this Edcor to be an excellent PT for 2204 type builds that will benefit from a non-stock, higher capacity power supply----- it is rated for 250 mA vs the stock 150 mA---- B+ will be @420-425V. You can use the same rectifier and bias circuits as in the 2204 schematic. Save the 100 watt Mar...

Re: Marshall Based Hi Gain Prototype
Nice! V30's in the orange cab ? Love to hear your Kt88 if you get the chance. D That's a 70's Orange cab with two orig Square Magnet Eminence's and two much newer Emi GB12's------ the speakers are nothing special but that cab is the best sounding Orange 4x12 out of three in my shop right now. I'll ...

Re: Marshall Based Hi Gain Prototype
This one is five gain stages plus a CF driven tonestack------ I'm not sure if it is a direct copy of another amp or not. This one was built almost a year ago but no vids were done until the other day, I also built a similar 5 gain stage 50 with KT88 x 2------ I'm building a "Big 50" on my bench now-...

Marshall Based Hi Gain Prototype
I built this 100 watt, EL34 x 4 hi gain head and my friend stopped by my shop to try out different amps---- he liked this one the best so I hooked up the vid recorder and caught him playing---- no delay, no post processing, running through the 70's Orange 4x12 can with two orig Square Magnet Eminenc...

Customer Vid, Hiwatt Clone
Here's a vid by one of my amp customers, Eoin (said like Owen)---- he's playing bass (with many effects) thru a DR504 clone I built for him early this year--- the big black head with my MULE logo on the front. Interesting to see what some of my customers do with the amps I make for them----- This is...

Re: 5150 on bench
That's the power resistor that the 5150's use instead of a choke----- that one looks heat damaged. Just wait until it's time to change screen grid resistors on that amp---- you have to drill out the rivets holding the power tube sockets in place (to remove the power PCB)----- replace the bad screen ...

Re: Mustard cap substitute!
I just built another DR504 clone for a local bass player----- I used a mix of Mojo Dijon and M150's----- the 47n Mojo Dijon caps are very large in diameter so I used M150's in the 47n and 100n board positions for a neater fit. I still had enough yellow M150's to do the job. FWIW----- George M. (Metr...

Re: High Gain Orange Amps
Thanks--- I took my 1974 Orange OR80 to my shop today for a check over and to fire it up---- it had been sitting in storage for a while. I installed the stock 330pF bright cap on the Vol pot----- I didn't put a bright cap in this one when I replaced the Vol pot as part of the initial service, yrs ag...

Re: High Gain Orange Amps
Vid of a 74-ish OR80 clone I built several yrs ago----- the player who bought it did this vid a couple of weeks ago.
Amp is sitting on top of the Mesa 4x12.
I used a Twin Reverb replacement PT and an Edcor 100 watt, 4.2k primary OT, Mercury 10H choke.
