I cannot wait for the requests to tune those as well to make them sound right.

Re: Mid 100 SN Overdrive Special build
Thanks guys! :-) Plate cathode values are a bit different and the amp sounds great. It sounds very similar to 100K/1.5K, I wonder if I could tell which is which if compared to a 100K plate amp. The chassis: location of boards was way off. I filled many holes with RTV, and put the chassis holes in th...

Mid 100 SN Overdrive Special build
Hi gang, This is an Overdrive Special I built recently. Low plate Skyline. Chassis was a gift from Ian, a commercial chassis that ended up requiring a ton of work to get everything in the right location. But it worked out well :-) Parts took me over a decade to find. Preamp is 124 ish with a musicma...

Re: Overdrive Reverb/Steel String Singer Hybrid
Right, a buffered phase inverter, does not make it a SSS, Dumble called this amp that Max describes, an Overdrive Special amp, and it has post phase inverter buffers. Also at least one Dumble SSS amplifier does not have the post PI buffers. So....having the post PI buffers do not instill amplifiers ...

Re: Overdrive Reverb/Steel String Singer Hybrid
Cool project! There are no SSS elements in this amp. I have looked in to this closely a few years ago, but the reality is that Overdrive and SSS technology cannot coexist in the same amp. I wish it was possible....but its not.

Re: Yet another 124 build
General comment: Tubes should be burned in *and then* matched. Not the other way around. To match, and to let them drift afterwards while they burn in is utterly nonsensical counterproductive, and wasteful. Some vendors burn their tubes in before matching, some do not. Others do not burn in and only...

Re: Plush as a Dumble style donor build
I agree on the Alu chassis, it sounds different than a steel chassis, more hollow. The steel chassis' sound nice too though, but not like an ODS

Re: ODS 183 NFB
Canonically, it would be the 4 Ohm tab in a 100W Dumble Overdrive Special with the 4.7K/390r global negative feedback. I have had Dumble Overdrive Special #0183 on my bench twice, ruptured an eardrum while letting it morph into feedback from a bass string, and my clone responds like that on the 4 oh...

Re: ODS 183 NFB
Depends.
I have that same TF-170 transformer and the 4 and 8 tabs are miswired (colors swapped) by the manufacturer. The other one I have is correct.

Tom,
I am so incredibly happy to hear you are still around and healing. You must have had quite the battle to fight, glad you two made it.
Honestly, I am speechless, such wonderful news. Thank you for letting us know

Re: Hrm with cf ?
Jelle, the one I'm referring to is the modded Bassman, supposedly done by HAD. It's also in the stickies. Cap I mean is clearly visible on v1b. But as you already said: the mods are diverse. And this modded Bassman is not an Ultraphonix, right? I just know what my eyes can see: The Bassman has that...

Re: Hrm with cf ?
More like the Bassman Ultraphonix mod Dumble did: trimming off some bass and high end. I have not seen any high end reduction measures in a Dumble Ultraphonix. They are clear and incredibly open in the top end...fragile harmonics :D Don’t know if all modded Bassmans have a cap over the anode resist...

Re: Hrm with cf ?
why use two tone stacks in series. a typical 2203 based circuit seems better In a well tuned amp, the dual tone stack OD config works well. It will make a humbucker guitar sound like a single coil that's on fire. Pretty cool effect, I use this effect with my band regularly. Kick in PAB and its rock...
