Re: NOS John Mayer Sig / Wonderland 100W

I think Two Rock added the cap to (i) address the reverb hum, which happens due to the classic tone PT and small headshell, and placement of the tank. The value of the cap used will have very little effect at 50-60 Hz, so reducing hum is not likely to be a factor. I can agree that a poorly position...

Re: NOS John Mayer Sig / Wonderland 100W

On my amp I removed the 10n cap, run an AT7 with 25u cathode cap and a feedback network around the AT like a SSS.

Re: Dumbleland Special Schematic

I would rather build a Dumbleland with 2x6L or 2x6550 power section rather than 6V6’s. Seems useless to build the 2 tubes PI mate to such power section for that amp imho. Been there (ODSR and Mini Major) and glad I switch to 6L at least. I agree! Best thing to do would be to get an old seasoned out...

Re: Benson Monarch

I meant the dual cap could be a 47uF used for B+ (one section, appropriate for a new production 5AR4 or almost on a NoS 5Y3) and the other section for the screens node after the 1K “choke” resistor. Most dual can caps values are 33u, 47u and 100u, not much in between unless a few here and there. Cou...

Re: Benson Monarch

From pictures the Monarch uses a dual can cap so two filter capacitors plus another node with a single cap (or two in //). No PI node then (a 4th cap would be needed). I would say a dual 47uF for B+ after the standby and screens then another node for the rest of the amp, either a single 47uF cap or ...

Re: ODS 124 - revisited for the 21C

You should build an SSS with CF and be done with it ;) SSS002 seems to be the one to build and it should sound different than a JM (tonestack, filters, CF, etc) I think you’re not far from SSS 004 now (without filters). Try to disconnect the Cut control too. I can’t speak much about the SSS and CF a...

Re: ODS 124 - revisited for the 21C

thanks fellas :) looking at the Ceriatone SSS and the JM I can see that there's no voltage divider with the 1m (68K-JM sig) on the SSS. is that because the signal is going to the filters and therefore doesn't need to be cut as the filters reduce the gain instead? I presume then that's another reaso...

Re: Benson Monarch

Maybe try to increase filtering on the first node then the second.

25u is still quite low, even for a small amp and the original use a chassis mounted dual cap. Somehow I though the original may use larger value capacitance here.

I really look forward to build that amp !!

Re: Dumbleland Anyone?

Tony, I almost send you a pm about the Chris Cross amp and Dumble bass amps a couple of days ago as I was reading a few old threads about ODR/SSS/DL ;) If I would voice a D style amp for bass I might try to go up on cathodes bypass caps, probably tweak the stack here and there. Lots of famous bass t...

Re: NOS John Mayer Sig / Wonderland 100W

was there ever a clear decision about the 1M -68k voltage divider? as there seem to be more pictures than were available when I built mine i wonder if there's a clearer shot of that 'node'. At the time I spoke to jelle and he said that the values of this node posted on Taylors layout didn't make a ...

I was using PRP MF for plates and Koa CF for everything else and I kept the same composition type when I upgraded the amp.

Re: ODSR #13 Hand drawn layout by H.A.D

Thanks Aaron and Tony ! I wouldn’t mind the reverb disappearing on OD as long as it’s not over powering and washed out by the OD. I guess 13 is a lower gain affair too as the clean is quite attenuated (like a JM) right at the output of V1b before the reverb stages. How does it sound clean Aaron with...

Re: Build Observations

Hello ! That chassis Is aluminium power coated in black. Due to the power coating process being an insulator there are places non coated (especially at the power tubes locations like you mentioned) so the grounds could make a good contact to the bare chassis itself. Not actually a metal sheet but ra...

Re: NOS John Mayer Sig / Wonderland 100W

Parts selection IMO also depends on the type of amp.The Wonderland being a mostly clean style amp somewhat limited in voicings is IMO is not quite as finicky as a more versatile amp like the ODS where you have a clean side cascading overdrive and a boost side which requires a bit more of a balance....
