I use a work light that takes a halogen G4 bulb. I find LED and fluorescent light fatiguing.

Re: Walnut/Maple AX84 Cab
Here's the back. 1/4" walnut, and a couple of thumbscrews to hold it on. The dial plate is cut and drilled, but not lettered yet. As for knobs I may make wooden knobs with a piece of fret wire imbeded as indicator, or continue the theme and do a very thin dovetail in contrasting wood as pointer. John

Re: Tips for constructing a good PTP build
Draw your layout and just stare at it.
Try to build on the socket and eliminate as much of the tag points and wire as you can. Try to orient your sockets so that wires are as short as they can be and cross less.

The best made US tubes were during the cold war, submini missile tubes.

He has another amp bulding bid. He makes a dovetail template from sticks, and a nicely made carbon fiber high pressure mold.

To me class A is about clean power.
I like the sound of high gain into asymmetric distortion. Single ended pentode does this with a bunch of compression.

Re: Finger Joint Jig
Really, you should sell knock down pine cabs on eBay. You can ship in a flat box just about anywhere. If you make the cab square you can do it with just 1 part. Each side can be the same. Cut 12" wide pine to 20" pieces. The box joint will be reversed at opposite ends. This way any 4 pieces will as...

The great thing about this design is that there us no cumulative leapfrog error that can mess you up on a long joint.
On pine you have to go a little sloppy because it swells so much when you apply glue.
