How many people have created TWO iconic roles on TV in a lifetime 8) You can't discount "Priceline Negotiator" either. I'm convinced that Shatner was the real reason behind Elvis' downward spiral... Re: Lyrics that stand out

I'll venture that it depends on who sings the lyric. The Beatles can sing, "yeah, yeah, yeah" and it's more meaningful than if I sing it. Hendrix can say, "Yeah, baby" and it's cool 'cuz he was Jimi. Bootsy Collins can say, "Yeah, baby" just about every other phrase. It's cool 'cuz it's Bootsy. Me,...

Re: Lyrics that stand out

It's always the awful lyrics that catch my ear. Their path to survival would seem to be as perilous as a baby sea turtle's. Yet the crappy lyric thrives and multiplies. There should be a Discovery Channel special on it. (in the voice of Leonard Nimoy) Cloaked in hypnotically repetitive melodies and ...

Re: Lexicon 284, anyone ever played one?

Here's a two tracks lifted from a couple demo songs of mine. I just solo'd the channel that they were on, and disabled all effects. They may sound a bit out of context without the rest of the song playing, but I wanted you to hear the amp without distractions. File 1 is a Guild Bluesbird Front P/U (...

Re: Lexicon 284, anyone ever played one?

I own a "Magic Eye" 284 and love it. Very clean, almost no hum. Big tone. Crunches up kinda marshally, but with a sweet Voxy chime. Very organic sounding. Good for everything from country & blues up to old school hard rock (Zep, AC/DC, Mountain, Sabbath, etc.). Doesn't do the modern Mesa thing too w...

Re: DETUNED CABINETS ANYONE?

So would an alternative be to cut ports in the speaker baffle, or wouldn't they be large enough? A 12" diameter hole seems quite big :D For it to be detuned, you would need a port that is equally as large as the speaker cutout or larger. Anything smaller, and you are tuning the cab with the port. S...

Re: DETUNED CABINETS ANYONE?

I have (1) Celestion Blue in an Avatar 2X12 cab, and left the second speaker out (Detuned), and to my ears, it boosts the low mids a bit too much. It does have good bottom, but it sounds like it's such a wide boost, that it also increases the boxiness frequencies. I don't really care for it, but a g...
