Re: Upgrades to a Ceriatone "Rock It" kit?
Actually, if I may be allowed -- as the originator of this thread -- to direct things a bit: It is a very common observation that many of the more budget-minded amp kit manufacturers make some decisions which effect the quality of the components. I do not fault these suppliers and manufacturers for ...

Re: Upgrades to a Ceriatone "Rock It" kit?
Thanks, all. I really appreciate the information. As far as the PT clearance issues, I will probably -- *ahem* -- try to build a wooden head cabinet myself, but I plan on waiting until I have a fully functional amp chassis before I cross that bridge. That being the case, I'll have the chance to then...

Upgrades to a Ceriatone "Rock It" kit?
Greetings! I will be building a Rocket-inspired amp -- using a Ceriatone "Rock It" kit as a starting point. I realize that there are varying opinions regarding the Ceriatone kits, but this is the kit I will soon have at my disposal (long story). Accepting the fact that the Ceriatone "Rock It" is the...

Re: Filter caps on a Rocket -- re-configure (no stack)?
....and, if it is not too late to ask a few follow-up questions..... Telentubes, your layout diagram intrigues me. I confess that I do not fully understand the rationale behind some of the design of your filter-cap rail. Specifically, it is the set up of the 80uF cap that leaves me scratching my hea...

The photos posted by telentubes are particularly useful, as they really help me to visualize the idea I had in mind.
My sincere thanks again to all responders for their helpful ideas.

Re: Filter caps on a Rocket -- re-configure (no stack)?
Thanks, Mark, I appreciate the photo. That is exactly what I had in mind.
Nice-looking wiring job and layout.
Along similar lines, I could not help but notice the beautiful wood cabinet in your avatar.....is that your handiwork as well?

Re: Filter caps on a Rocket -- re-configure (no stack)?
Thanks Rob!
Having one of the filter cap boards *share* the mounting screws with the PT is an excellent idea!
Any chance you can post a "gut shot" of this amp?

Re: Filter caps on a Rocket -- re-configure (no stack)?
Thank you! I am probably being overly-cautious -- after all, I should be able to change locations around a little bit -- especially while I am staying away from the more-sensitive pre-amp side of the fence. Having said that, I have been surprised a couple of times, when moving something I did not th...

Re: Filter caps on a Rocket -- re-configure (no stack)?
Thanks to all for the helpful replies! Jim, Mark, that you for pointing out those build threads! You both have very nice-looking builds, and I am sure that they sound as good as they look! I am already picking up some ideas and insights from the photos you both have posted. Fishy, yes, that is what ...

Filter caps on a Rocket -- re-configure (no stack)?
Greetings! I am about to begin a build of a Rocket clone based on the Ceriatone "Rock It" kit. I am probably being a bit over-obsessive, but I had a question about the filter caps on this amp: I notice on the Ceriatone "Rock It" -- as well as the other Rocket-based clones of which I have seen pictur...

Re: What does a Trainwreck sound like?
Thanks very much for this link, Keith.
I have just gotten the CD a couple of days ago, and I have practically worn out the CD player in my car listening to this thing. A great player -- might I add -- playing through some great amps.

What does a Trainwreck sound like?
Hi Folks, This may be a "stupid question of the day" sort of thing, and if so, I sincerely apologize. I am still in the early stages of my amp-building and tweaking, having built only two amps thus far (and a few mods). I am thinking about some of my potential future builds. This site is obviously d...

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who took the time to reply to my query. Mark, thanks for the link to the Jack Darr book -- I had previously looked for it but couldn't find it. Gearhead, the Navy link was quite useful -- the chapter on tubes looks especially good. Thanks to everyone else, too -- I ...

Book recommendations, anyone?
Greetings! I am neither a complete novice nor a seasoned expert on the subject of tube amps, and I am trying to gain better knowledge and understanding. Many of you who participate in this forum seem to have knowledge vastly superior to mine -- I'm wondering how you learned this, and what can you re...
