Re: New Solid State FX loop source - $20
If you ask Miles... He says the circuit was stolen, not designed, by Mojo... Thats what i understand too, and the original is the $85 metro zero loss loop.... https://store.metropoulos.net/products/zero-loss-fx-loop-kit Now wheres the link to this $20 one? I have tried 3 tube loop designs so far an...

Re: gain stage question
Ken, i think You're right in that 2.7 is crunchier than 1.5. And the reason i like 2.7 is that the crunchier tone lends itself better to classic rock semi clean rhythm tones. Think sweet home alabama, tom petty, etc. Those crunchy semi clean tones where you hear every each note in a chord more clear...

Re: gain stage question
Hmmm...i didn't realize that. I was using 100k plate, 1.5k cathode but i thought i read somewhere 2.7k was center bias so i tried that and liked it on V1A. Rigged up a switch and A/B'd them and the 2.7k just sounded cleaner so i am using that. Tried it on V1B too but there i didn't like it. On the i...

Re: NFB question
It's not a speaker thing and yes, i have but not because of this. There are some things you just know from experience and this wasn't a speaker thing. No matter, tho, as like i said the bass cap did the trick perfectly.

Re: NFB question
None now ! Just too much low end. I've reduced the bass cap in the past many times, but with this particular amp it was the first time it did exactly what i needed.

Re: NFB question
I tried that but no real joy. I did however find a solution, one i have tried uncountable times for various EQ changes and never seems to work. The tone stack. Changing caps there for bass or mids never has yielded good results in the past for me. Slope and treble cap changes, yes, but the slope did...

NFB question
If possible, how would i go about reducing low end by doing so in the NFB? Is it possible? I know how to add it, but not reduce it. I don't want to do it in the preamp for reasons too longwinded to go into so the NFB seems the logical location.

Re: Need help picking a OT
Can anyone see any reason not to use the following for a pair of 6V6's? http://www.classictone.net/40-18039.html It's a JTM45 OT but at 8k into 4, 8, and 16 ohms it seems like a good candidate for a nice, beefy OT. I was looking at the DeArmond R15 OT from Mercury but this seemed like a good altern...

Need help picking a OT
For two 6V6. I can of course just grab anything made for a deluxe, but i want something that will give me the most power. I now have a 30w heyboer custom made to use in a classic 30 but it's primary is 3800. I believe 6V6 want about 6k, yes? so what would be a good pick to match a pair of 6V6 and is...

Heres a strange one for you
Maybe someone can tell me what could cause this because it makes no sense to me. First of all, note that i use a tung sol 12Ax7 in V1 tho not in any other position. This is a home brew marshall jcm800 single channel master volume type amp with 6V6 and 18 watt transformer. I built it long ago so it's...

Re: gain stage question
I went back to 22uf/500pf cathode/coupling. It just sounds so much tighter in the lows. So I put it back and found some changes to compensate for the things i didn't like about it and i pretty much have it where i want it. Well, close at least. It;ll do but i will likely brainstorm for a while and h...

Re: gain stage question
Some of that sounds like what i'm hearing, tho some not so much. I take it intermodulation distortion is a bad thing? Anyways, with high bypass/low coupling capacitance it has a much tighter low end. The opposite gives some fuzz/flab in the lows, not a unbearable amount by any means but it's undesir...

Re: gain stage question
Another question....afaik something like 22uf allows the entire frequency band thru, so what is the point of using much larger caps as bypass? Do larger caps create more gain or what? I have seen as big as 320uf on a particular marshall, i think a 70's model.
