Re: Testing an Output Transformers
It is better to use a small transformer (ie 12vac) to determine the voltage ratio rather than a speaker to measure current. The reason being, that the speaker connection is not a true 8ohm, but nominal. The speaker could be 50 ohms at a rated 60hz and this would surely throw off the measurements.

Re: Filling holes in a chassis?
I always liked the Keystone nylon plugs. They should be available at Mouser, Allied, etc.

I forwarded your video to a friend of mine. He recently purchased a $173.00 Power Cord. I pointed out to him that your video shows a power strip plugged into a power strip with no "Loss Of Tone". I have not heard back from him yet......[/quote] That $ 173.00 power cord is useless unless you b...

Re: Edcor power transformer for Champ clone
How about the http://www.edcorusa.com/products/640-xpwr047_120.aspx
It only 10 volts off as far as the HT is concerned. The one that you found doesn't have filament or 5 volt taps. This is also x mounting (stand up) and not lay down like a champ if that matters.

Re: Anyone making their own guitar cables??
I was in the pro sound /installed field for 20+ years and played in bands for years. I have truely learned to hate Switchcraft XLR connectors. When I was introduced to the Neutrik NC3MX type connectors, I never turned back. I like the Switchcraft phone connectors and use heatshrink with them. As far...

Re: PT Questions
It's not really a dual secondary, just the way that it was drawn. The winding on the bottom left is for the 6v heaters. That is sorta funky way of taking a centertap (pink) to feed through the 2k7 to the Cathodes. I would leave it.

As Martin stated, you would need to change the switch to a 3pdt in order for the LED to be added.

I would also email Paul or one of the guys at Mercury. They can be very helpful and surely email you a diagram for the tranny. Just explain it was used and you want to use it.

Ditto on the ferrite core. They help reduce the possibility of radio interference, high frequency interference, and eddy currents. Try and retain the same setup. There is a reason they put in the circuit and it does not interfere with the sound. They are used in the computer and telecommunication fi...

I don't see anyone getting upset over Bludotone or some of the others that are profiting.stevlech wrote:What makes you say that?I can't help but think that if Nik were based in the US that we wouldn't be seeing quite such a negative response.

Re: "Paint By Numbers" Amp Building
mcrracer I feel pretty much the same way you do. There are a lot of individuals that really want to jump into building. There is so much on other sites about putting amps together in the paint by numbers scheme and having a working amp. I think this forum in particular, is not the best to start with...
