Re: Which D-style pedal?

I will definitely report back with my results. I built an RFDrive (from wattkins.com) which is described as similar to a Zen drive for the Robben Ford sound many years ago. It’s been a good pedal, I’m just a little bored and ever seeking that small improvement—diminishing returns when seeking one’s ...

Re: Which D-style pedal?

Ok, I just ordered the Aion Azimuth kit—only $87.75… and, I get to build it myself.

Re: Which D-style pedal?

While it was obvious to me that he was always a salesman marketing with a ton of BS and buzzwords, the examples I found online seemed to sound pretty good to me. I had no clue to any of the drama regarding the ethics and industry politics. I have not bought anything from Vertex. I was amused by the ...

Re: Which D-style pedal?

I understand this very well.
No one wants to buy an original amp design… it only has value as it relates to some historically iconic model. Furthermore, If it doesn’t look pretty it won’t matter how it sounds.

Re: Which D-style pedal?

Yeah… I kinda figured it was a long shot.
Perhaps, better topic for the gear page—I just don’t like that forum as much.

Which D-style pedal?

I find myself wanting to buy a Dumble inspired pedal… Perhaps it seems somewhat odd to ask about a pedal that emulates the sound of a Dumble hear at the amp garage (with this being the best source of knowledge on the magic of Dumble amps), but I expect if any of you have a favorite of the D’style pe...

Re: 6V6 Screen Grid Dissipation - Is it an issue?

I am no expert, but I can’t help but think,“why bother?”… I mean, worrying and calculating so precisely. If you have not strayed too far from typical operating conditions, you have screen grid resistors and are not over voltage at idle, are you in “safe” enough territory? Is there a problem you need...

Re: effect on bright cap valu on mids...

The bright cap lets high frequency signal pass around the volume pot’s attenuation. If the volume is set very high the bright cap has little to no effect. If the volume is set very low the bright cap will have a much larger influence on the sound letting all the frequencies it passes through unatten...

Re: Loud Speaker polarity ... again !

Without really much to add to this conversation… I once built a speaker cable that inverts so that I could employ a swap of speaker polarity in the event that I struggle to find the right sound. While I have tried it at home to make sure it works and on occasion used it because it was accessible, I ...

Re: When Using 4, 8, or 16 Ohm Taps....??

I understand the rationale behind the idea that more winding might be beneficial… Does this imply that a multi tap OT played at 4 Ohms would sound different then an OT wound strictly for 4 Ohms? Then there is the old school stereo solid state school of thought that expected more power run at lower O...

Re: Favorite Ways to Control Compression

I always wonder if I chase the same kind of “compression” as others. Is the goal to limit output peaks? And/or, raise the volume of quiet passages? Is the goal to have output volume stay the similar as you control of amount of “gain” with the guitar volume? Is it to make the amp feel less strident? ...
