RJ,
Glad to hear you made it back home and everything's OK.
Hopefully rain will come soon.

Old Heathkit tube amp
Hello all, I have the opportunity to buy an old Heathkit tube amp (stereo?) probably cheaply but I haven't gotten down to details with the person who is selling it. He is not a musician or tube amp buff in any way, he just got a bunch of stuff from an old TV repair person including this amp and some...

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
The VVR is working now and this thing is great! Now with the VVR I can turn it all the way down to silence with the front panel knobs turned all the way up. Kudos to Dana at Hall Amps for the VVR and to sliberty and all of you that have helped me figure this thing out (and for putting up with my que...

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
Both of you are correct, I only moved the OT center tap, the choke is still before the VVR so let me move that over and see what happens. I was wondering about the choke.
Thanks so much! I'll let you know how it goes after I move the choke after the VVR.

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
So, it sounds like the VVR is working correctly. Now the questions is whether it is tied into your amp correctly. Can you show us a schematic fragment of how the VVR sits in your amp circuit? If you refer back to the layout diagram in my first post in this thread (sorry no schematic available), I h...

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
A properly working VVR will reduce the volume dramatically when turned all the way down. I have even had one amp virtually shut off when the VVR was on the minimum setting. Check the voltage on B+ out pad of the VVR when the VVR is maxed, and check it again when it is at minimum setting. At minimum...

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
I installed the VVR on my 15 W Lightning clone and while it does attenuate the volume some, even with the VVR turned all the way down the amp is still really loud, a lot louder than I thought it would be when I crank up the volume and MV so I'm wondering what's going on. I do think the VVR is workin...

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
OK I'm finally getting around to finishing this thing up and I have one more question. I've marked the foil on the two caps that I need to install to remove DC on pots but does it matter here which way I install them? I know usually the idea is to install the outer foil edge to side which has lower ...

Re: Hole Size for Belton Sockets
What is the correct size for the metric step drill bit to fit the Belton sockets?
Also would a Dremel tool work for the deburring?
Thanks!

Re: Anyone had problems with tung sol reissue 6L6GC?
Me too, I have a quad in my 100W Rivera modded Fender Twin. They've been sounding really good but I did notice recently that the bias had drifted off somewhat when I happened to check that.Structo wrote:You guys are scaring me.

How can I join the fun? How does someone order an Eagle Supre? I couldn't find specifics on RJ's site.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: or
I positioned the VVR, on my Rocket, at the back of the chassis just into the unused area near the output selector and its very quiet. I ran the wires back don to the B+ and standby. So know is on the back wall. A Angelo it sounds like you put your VVR in the same spot I'm looking at on my chassis b...

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
Yowza, Yes, it is fine to use the VVR without a standby switch. In fact, use it as the standby by turning it all the way down - lowering the voltages. Yes, the boot strapped master will work fine will work fine with VVR. Thanks John! I do appreciate it. I have one last question, since I have to dri...

Re: Installing VVR on Lightning clone
Thanks to angelodp for the PM and dynaman for confirming what I thought to be correct! I think I'll use a terminal strip for the preamp components just because it has a cleaner look. Two other questions, does it matter that my Lightning doesn't have a stand-by switch, will this harm the VVR ? Also a...

Installing VVR on Lightning clone
I built a Ceriatone Lightning clone and this 15 watt amp is too loud when I crank it up to where it starts to really sound good so I bought a VVR from Dana at Hall amps. I'm scaling the whole amp so I'm wondering, do I take the B+ into VVR from the first filter cap with the B+ going out of VVR to th...
