Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

The problem is that you can't get a full-size chassis for a decent price. A Bassman chassis is 20" long. The biggest ready-made box I could find was 19". I want room to play with so I'm not limited by space. I might want to do something new. Seventeen inches by eight might do it, but I have no doubt...

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Let's face it. Wasting 90 minutes recessing screw holes instead of buying longer screws...that's like something out of The Three Stooges. That isn't going to happen again.

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Probably not. This thing was cheap, and once you know what to do with it, it's not hard to work with. My problem is that I don't see the special challenges coming on this first effort, so they delay me. The second time around, I'll know what to do.

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

I might as well tell the whole short-bus story. I also got frustrated because my new standoffs were the wrong diameter for my screws (the ones that were too short for the chassis). I never realized there were different sizes of standoffs, so when I bought them, I didn't check. Instead of running to ...

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Man, this purple-wire gaffe is a real setback. And today I had another. I realized this chassis is too thick for the short screws that fit my standoffs. I got out my Forstner bit and cut four recesses in the top of the chassis, so the screws would reach. It was only about two hours later that I real...

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Oh, no! Can I paint this wire purple? Will that fix it?

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Here is the stuff I bought. Fifty feet for $5. Is my amp going to explode?

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Not sure what you mean by the 6L6 thing since the output transformer connects to those.
I've found that I'm liable to say just about anything before 11:00 a.m. I'm on my third amp, so I guess by now I should have a firmer grasp on the whole transformer/tube relationship.

Love, Gerald

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Not talking about speaker cables. I went to a local electronics store and picked up some 20 gauge wire. It's not easy to find anything good in Miami, at a reasonable price. I was surprised to get a decent price at Antique Electronic Supply. I would order more from them, but I don't want to wait a we...

Re: Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Okay, so I guess I should run to Home Dept and get some 20 gauge. If they have it. Thanks.

Wire Gauge for Output and Speaker Jacks?

Can anyone recommend a good wire gauge for my 6L6 output tubes and my speaker jacks? My amp will run around 40 watts, I think.

I don't want to go too heavy. I don't want fat, heavy, stiff wires stressing the other components and snapping things off.

Generally, I'm using 22-gauge wire.

Re: Turn Bassman into Super Reverb?

Okay, so you're referring to the resistor and capacitor on the left cathode! I got it. I was looking for a pot on the schematic, so I had no idea what you meant.
