Re: 2024 Monkeymatic Liverpool (nontraditional)
Hey Aaron, I just built my Liverpool for the second time. I used the 68k instead of the 150k per Miles suggestion. Mine has the high gain hiss but No extra noise. I also can crank the amp to 2 than after that it’s way too loud. I guess these amps are like the express as a lot of the volume comes on...

Re: 2024 Monkeymatic Liverpool (nontraditional)
Where did you end up on the third stage? I have no idea why the hell a 150k would be suggested other than joking about sustain and getting 100w peak transients out of a 35w amp. The high end response on my amp taps the stops on my meter. My 60w amps don't. Red light scares me. Do you know the Scorpi...

Re: 2024 Monkeymatic Liverpool (nontraditional)
Build finished, fired up successfully. 316v plates – 10.3 cathode = 306v plate-to-cathode, 10.3v across 130R cathode resistor = 80mA, or almost exactly 100% dissipation, so that's nice. I have a LOT of noise at idle. It's not the gNFB, it's just a huge amount of gain following the Volume pot. If I ...

Re: What do you believe regarding the sound of passive components?
Oh man! I just realized where we need to look.
Doug Fearn. If anyone has more than simple insight into everything and everything else, it is him. His mic amps are mostly RCA tube manual designs at the core.
He picks parts for a real reason. There aren't many parts.

Re: What do you believe regarding the sound of passive components?
Frequencies above audible range do affect the outcome... I recall hearing R. Neave say (in an interview) that he thought mixer amps needed 100k BW, even though that wasn't generally accepted. This is where the virtual space of the machine is. In a couple very nicely equipped rooms I have sat with s...

British panel show advocate
For impatient people who don't like mislabeling agenda as content. I mean old people.
It is a radio show. Don't try to watch it.

Sorry I somehow miss this everytime.
The Jose setup does change things a bit. It makes the amp more muscular when the Jose volume is moderated to about 7. Nice highs. No more trash.
Add a simple master and also moderate to about 7.. in fact, set everything at 7. Always.

Re: What do you believe regarding the sound of passive components?
Frequencies above audible range do affect the outcome. Imagine if you had an eq setup for an arbitrary range above audible say.. 40-100kHz. Phase shift. It's a thing. Dmn it is hard to talk about this without woo-woo words. The.. magical virtual space a machine makes (that I mentioned earlier) is as...

It's only a couple hundred volts.
Ok, I see you do things differently from me. Is there a video of you mining the ore you smelt your chassis from?
And it looks great.

Re: Metal cutters: Ok. I have the profile
Losing the click is the key, and it is done by exposing only the barest sliver of the pick and muting only that duration with the thumb and index finger. The smaller the point.. time on the string means noise. Many people would look very hard to see the exposed point when I hold a pick. It is not mu...

Re: Just got this Bogen Challenger CH8 working, now what?
It looks FUN! AT7 will be even less input gain, the second stage will make up some of that, but if you are shooting for clean and louder consider making V1 all about driving the tone section *next*. a TMB tone stack eats about 12 decibels. Fenders sound boomy and Marshalls sound carved. That mostly ...

Isn't this your first Liverpool thing? I am very interested to hear it go. I read everything and felt positive about the possibilities.
I bet it is a GREAT Strat amp. I bet a Rocket works real good with that setup.

20 year project was disrupted by rig change. I might have to capture mods now!
Great.. now I have to record everything I solder.
