Re: Tweaking a Fuchs ODS50

I'm not surprised that Andy hasn't chimed in. For one, I have not approached him directly about this. Secondly, he offers this service as part of his business model. In some sense, he would be giving away IP. I have heard good sounds with the jazz setting. There is just no bloom with the jazz settin...

Re: Behringer is trash

The grain of rice is actually pretty big these days. That's in the 1206 and 0805 range. Try dealing with 0603 or 0402. We're talking grain of sand. You don't need to go below 0805 in most cases, unless you are really shooting for super miniature. Any decent soldering station with the right tips will...

Re: Tweaking a Fuchs ODS50

Blues - thanks for the tips. I have adjusted the internal trimmers. 9 o'clock is about where I have them, but pot values vary alot. Have you ever measured the resistance at the 9 o'clock pot setting? I tend to run the gain on the low side because I like the OD smoothness and the tone is better to my...

Re: Tweaking a Fuchs ODS50

This is a pre SLX. I have tried several preamp tubes without much success - JJ, Telefunken, and some vintage RCAs. Andy's upgrades are a little pricey and I won't gain much knowledge about tweaking if I send it to him. Good to know that you got nice results from his tweak though. sorry 2x post by hi...

Re: Tweaking a Fuchs ODS50

Jelle - thanks for the 'gut it out' suggestion, but I like the Fuchs. It is still by far the best amp in my moderate stable -and I have some good amps. I value the Fuchs too much to violate it in that way. I would probably start a new build before I trashed the Fuchs. If I start a new build, I will ...

Tweaking a Fuchs ODS50

I have a Fuchs ODS50 combo with single 12" Sugarcone. I like the amp alot, but I feel like someting is missing. It doesn't have any of the shimnmer on the clean channel that I have heard in some of the posted clips. In OD mode, it doesn't have much bloom unless I crank it to ear splitting volume. I ...

I used to have one of those. Never liked the boxy sound it eminated. I tried it quite a few cabs - all with the same boxy result. I wouldn't go there.

Re: Vox Tonelab ST [?]

The Rockman was pretty good for its time, but you'll probably have trouble finding one. I had one in the 80s and loved it right up until my drug addict GF pawned if for me. I miss her, the Rockman that is. I picked up a PODXt a while back cause I got too lazy some nights to carry an amp to rehearsal...

Re: Behringer is trash

And why should a simple jack repair tie up a piece of back line in the repair shop, not to mention shipping. Its ridiculous. I'd have to see it to understand, but I would guess it has something to do with ability of the repair shop Even a lowly old peavey monitor board sounds better. I've run live ...

Re: Behringer is trash

Behringer's quality per dollar spent is pretty darn high. I own Behringer, Mackie, Rane, Crown, dBx, QSC, etc... Alot of my Behringer stuff has outlasted the 'better' brands and many times it sounds just as good. Most of the illusion that other brands are better, is just that, an illusion. Open up t...

Re: Choosing 212 Speaker Combo

I use a Fuchs ODS50 combo. The combo has a Sugarcone and then I use a Emi Delta Pro 12A in a separate cab that usually is located on the other side of the stage. They are a nice combination. The Sugarcone has nice upper mids and slightly more highs than the Emi Delta Pro 12A, which is darker and rou...
