Re: Postal rates making me go postal!
... I'm getting more and more Amazon Prime shipments that use UPS city to city, then USPS' last mile service for delivery. They've met Amazon's 2-day shipping at least 90% of the time IME, and the few delays were just one day. That last mile service is corporate welfare. UPS, FedEx, and others can'...

Re: Postal rates making me go postal!
USPS is a joke in so many ways, but the junk mail delivery system is functioning at a high level. Interesting that I installed a trash can at the end of my driveway. Although, I thought is was a mail box when I installed it. Some guy, the mailman, shows up everyday and puts trash in 'it'. I then mov...

Re: Liverpool build. HELP PLEASE.
Well voltage readings were.... um mostly non-existent. All the heaters were 3.4v instead of 6.3 which includes checking the taps right off the transformer. The only other readings I got were coming off the diodes running out to Caps C2, C3 & C4 which have 240vdc running in and 0 coming out. All oth...

Re: Holy Shirt, Tweed Deluxe!
I'm using STW20NK50Z, which cost about $3.50 each. Way overspec'd. Just bolted to chassis (needs insulator and heatsink paste). After three hours of continuous operation at about 1/4 voltage, MOSFET temp was just shy of 100 degrees F. Possibly rising heat from the power tubes was contributing to th...

Re: Holy Shirt, Tweed Deluxe!
Yes, I'm scaling the entire amp, except heaters. So awesome. Also, no scratchiness in the pots, because I observed recommended insertion of decoupling caps at the input. VVR works well with the 5E3. Scale the whole amp and add decouplers as mentioned. Tone loss is negligible unless you heavily atte...

Re: Another Express video from GK, this time w/1962 Les Paul SG
The Express, at least my clone, does not sound 'fully alive' to me without the bright switched on. The tone isn't right to my ear and amp 'feels' less interactive with the guitar. The interaction is one of the things that I really like about the Express. I put a baffle in front of the cab to reduce ...

Re: Don't Know What I'm Hearing
I am in the, "it should not motorboat at any setting" camp. There are different opinions on this obviously. Even if you can't hear the motorboating, there still could be some underlying oscillation that will negatively influence the tone of the amp. By the way, I have experienced amps that broke int...

Re: Anatomy of coupling capcitors.
You should look at Youtube for an explanation of how a cap works. The explanation is not all that simple. The reason DC does not pass and AC does requires an understanding of electric charge and how electrons and protons behave. Stating that DC can't pass through the dielectric is not helping IMO. C...

Re: Magnets!
I LIKE CHEESE! Seriously, how is this reacting to the copper? My suspicion is that the copper cylinder is actually a coil in disguise. Any other theories? :D Tom, it's Ampere's law. The magnetic field, from the magnet, causes a current to flow in the copper. In turn, the current in the copper cause...

Re: Rant: A Tale of 2 TV's
A few things: An extra cable was mentioned for audio when using HDMI. HDMI contains audio and no extra cable for audio should be needed. The Fire stick is good. The Roku is better IMO. Just mentioning it as an alternative. Cheap HDMI cables work fine, unless you require a lot of length. Monoprice se...
