Cabinet Finish.
I use a similar method, but I simply use tung oil. I don't mix it with anything. Just tung oil finish. Available in any hardware store. Other than that my steps are pretty much the same as John's (Basic Audio) method. Here's an example of one of my cabinets: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?...

Rich,
Beautiful Build. I agree with the others. No rats nest there. Very clean.
It's more... Cramped organization.

Curious about a particular Amp Manufacturer?
I just came across this site today. OMFG.
What a great collection of amp and Effects manufacturer's.
Anyways... You'll see what I mean when you get there.

Re: "Paint By Numbers" Amp Building
By the way my ICON is a photograph of a glowing 12L6 in the very first tube amp I built in 2003. A 4W SE Stereo Power Amp that I'd seen in AudioXpress. Was still working until last year when I gutted it to rebuild it (since everything I'd learned) I thought I could improve the layout and reduce hum....

Re: "Paint By Numbers" Amp Building
Just wanted to chime in here. I rarely check out the Technical Discussion threads. I'm 43. 7 years ago I was one of the new guys. Very ambitiously I'd decided to build a 2 channel tube amp stereo system from scratch. I'm a mechanical engineer and I design speakers for Polk Audio. As a previous hobby...

gut shot photos
Guys, So I was just surfin' google images the other day and I found the site below: http://www.proguitar.de/ProGuitarPreisliste/Links/DrZ/ Holy crap! What a great stash of images. Drill up the directory and you'll find photos of other boutique amps as well. Drill all the way up to the main site to g...

Re: Newbie problems with startup!
First of all I agree with RJ. Great photos. It's always a big help when a builder takes/posts hi-resolution photos of their build. Since you've only posted photos of the power supply section so far... I would suggest de-soldering your mains from the power switch and twisting them up to help reduce h...

A Question about Phase Inverter Output
I have a technical question for the amp gurus here... Could the output(s) signal of a phase inverter be sent to a power amp directly? In other words, could the in-phase and out-of-phase signals be sent (as two separate) preamp signals to the left and right channels of a separate stereo amplifier? In...

Re: Rocketus Addus Reverbus
That's funny... I was the one who created that Layout of Allyn's wreck after he posted all the gut shots.
I'm surprised you didn't go with the external bias adjustment on yours like he did.
Thanks for posting those alternative layouts of Normster's stuff I only had the one.

80W Rocket Reverb
Mark,
Did you ever work up a schematic for that 80 watter you built. I would love to build one myself.
If so would you mind sharing it?
sst4270@verizon.net
Sincerely,
Steve
Also if you've got any more detailed gut shots. I would love to see them as well.

Rocket Build
Strat Addict, I realize you stated that you wanted to be able to roll back your guitar volume for cleans; however, may I suggest you use a pedal for your leads? While the Rocket has a wonderful cranked clean sound I think what makes the amp really nice is how quiet it is even with the volume dimed. ...

I've built a few AX84 4-4-0's Just another option for low wattage express tone with easy to obtain tubes. Look here: http://www.ax84.com/4-4-0.html And FWIW one of my customers who has played through several original wrecks called me the day he received it and was blown away that I had "absolutely n...
