Side by side, Sozo caps tested almost spot on.

Most polyesters are fairly close. Sozo pretty much nailed it though. I have this old 1983 Teague LCR that tests at 120 or so frequencies between 10Hz and 20KHz. Sozo caps had a better Q below 280Hz than Mullards. From about 300Hz up, they were spot on, but the Sozo caps are not metal cased, so they ...

Corner the resonant freq? Try induction from a substation.

If you practice inside a large power substation you don't need a power cord either, but I would not recommend it. The hum is just unbearable. Seriously, the florescent lights will stay on in an indoor substation from the induction alone, at least until the lamps burn out. You can turn the switch off...

A TO26 Heyboer? That has gotta go.

No wonder it was having problems! That transformer is down in the Tweed Deluxe & Deluxe Reverb territory. I am rather surprised it did not cook itself. If you were using modern production 7591s that creates some minor more issues, but trying to run anything much more powerful than an old 6L6G or 6L6...

Tolex seams, flush & flat

Just make sure you keep a good supply of sharp razor blades, or utility knife blades on hand. If one starts getting draggy and dull, discard it, ASAP. A lot of the older vinyl amp coverings were not actually vinyl, or Tolex. I don't even think actual General Tire & Rubber Tolex is still being made. ...
