Re: My X10 has begun

What bright cap value?

standard 100pF. It's more than enough for me. I'm using a polistyrene over there

Re: My X10 has begun

So I swapped the cathodes on V1 as Paolo did earlier. It seems to "tame" the amp slightly. I think I will switch them back. Observations: 1) overdrive still a tad bassy I *think*, this is with the neck pickup on a LP with AlnicoII HBs. 2) Gain pot at V1 is maxxed out at 30%, turning it more doesn't...

Re: My X10 has begun

Rooster seems that also Steve carr in his Rambler amp ( IMHO one of the best amps built these days) thinks that it's an amazing choice. AFAIK you'll find in its circuit at least 3 different fender inspirations ( BF, SF and tweed). As a parallel, let's say that using dale rn65 resistors in a tweed am...

Re: My X10 has begun

@surfsup today I'm really busy so I 'll check the voltages possibly tomorrow @rooster I've built more than one fender style amp with solens in the supply and I have to say that everywhere I fitted them, I found always stunning results, compared to electrolitics. If I can say, everything is more fast...

Re: My X10 has begun

Surf, sorry probably I'm mistaking , but what's the value of the anode resistors for the phase inverter? From your picture I see 10k, but probably is just the photo........

Re: My X10 has begun

FunkyE9th is right on the transient, but it appears that the whole story ends in 250 milliseconds, that for a COLD wire resistor I suppose are fine. I mean . its' dissipating 10 w for 0,25 sec and is a 5 w rated resistor.
It's not something that will destroy the all thing in a while.

Re: My X10 has begun

surf, the external appearence tells you nothing at all.........
It's a good occasion to learn how to test a mosfet with a tester!

Re: My X10 has begun

333Volt is not so terrible, at least not to the point that everything is transformed in smoke......... rememner that an Ac30 design is always far to be defined conservative compared to the EL84 dissipations limits So, don't bother on that value for now. Turn it on without the vvr. And you'll immedia...

Re: Ceriatone Big Deluxe?

It's similar to the pro tweed amp (5e5)
wonderful thing going from blues to jazz territory.
If it's equipped with the mercury magnetic pro Output transformer you get a monster.
I've made one for myself .
I build amps for a living.
This is one of my favorites ever.

Re: My X10 has begun

Hi surf.
I would try to set everything up taking out the VVR for the moment.
The isolation of the VVR mosfet is mandatory for having it working properly.
The Mos is gone.
So take the vvr our and start again the power up procedure.

Re: My X10 has begun

nice build, that I'm sure will sound great. just an idea for all the switched pots you've got: You can use one for the sparkle /bright switch, another for including or excluding the famous 56/82K (or whatever value could be) grid leak so to tame the overall gain, and the last could be used to change...

Re: My X10 has begun

if you have something around there , 1k5, 3k3, 4k7, 5k6 you can use it to make the fisrt test and then replace it.

Re: Xits X10 = liverpool half power?

I may be wrong here but i think the formula is f=1/(6.3*R*C) EDIT: Since R is inverse, increasing R will cut at a slighly lower frequency ( oops, PASSING more highs)... 80k is 425Hz cutoff 120k is 281Hz cutoff But, since this is at the PI, there will be no second, third harmonics will there? So rea...
