Re: New trainwreck clone HOWLING
Maybe because the 12au7 has hardly any gain compared to a 12ax7. if you give it more signal, the howling is amplified, I believe. Alot of us have had this issue when building from scratch. and its a simple thing to do to eliminate the problem, and if it doesn't solve it you can swap the leads back, ...

Re: New trainwreck clone HOWLING
Hi. Is this a new build? If so maybe think of swapping the the OT to power tube plate ( pin 3) connections, you might have positive feedback, going on.
If not maybe post some voltages and photos of the amp.
Good luck, Joe

Re: Thought of building a Rocket
I’ve built all of these, I find the Rocket more useful in the fact pedals work way better through it. The Express and Liverpool do not like pedals, IMO ( my amps anyways ) Also The Rocket does cook when pushed hard and the overdrive on it when it get there is awesome, I find Everyone has different t...

Re: Benson Monarch
Thanks. Dave... 280 0 280 - my voltages are almost identical to some of the others who posted. Yeah I'm almost out of RJ's stuff, I had bought a box of stuff from him a couple of years ago. He's the best, he's busy with his house Reno's now and doesn't have much amp time anymore.... I'm gonna build ...

Re: Benson Monarch
Hiya. I built this 2 weeks ago and it sounds great. I have never bought a store bought amp before, but this one would be one I would buy. I used iron from RJ (these were for a cathode biased 6v6 Express ~ 18watts) but I already have an Express, so I had these sitting for a couple of years. this was ...

Lol I also printed off that build picture a few years ago too, when I built my express.

Re: Silver Jube Clone Oscillation?
That’s great that you found it, without losing too much hair. I’ve been there too. I have Hammond 50 watt OT that has weird wiring colours as well and wanted to smash the amp until I put it aside for a few days, then calmly looked at it again, then realized that it was the pilot (me) that was at fau...

Re: Tips for solder flow
Man that sucks, and yes I’ve had that happen with turrets I bought at AES. Before. I have about 150 of them waiting for 2 amp builds. I’ll be extremely peeved if these are like yours... I think I’ll try a few solder tests before I populate a board.... thanks for all the tips. Good luck Viper, hope i...

Re: Express Hammond Iron
Hi mehfuzhoss. that PT is more for a 2 6v6 amp (used in Fender's like 5E3 and Deluxe Reverb) Rocket and Express, both would use more mA current and heater current. the heater taps on the 290BX is 3A, not enough ~ the Trainwrecks need more heater current because of the power tubes. I bought and used ...

Re: Deluxe Reverb replica build
That’s a nice amp Martin.
Did you make your own boards? What speaker are you using?
I have the same iron as you (well my PT is a 290cx) but should be ok. I just have to buy a chassis and I can try one now that I’m retired.... again great job
Joe.
