I do, whether you're supposed to or not.

Darn...that was my best idea. If the bottoms of the polepieces touch the brass plate, she can squeal like a banshee...

You'll probably never notice in a JTM45. Unless you're Eric Johnson...

Re: Finally Building JTM45: Stupid Questions As They Arise
The way I understand it, the outside foil goes to the low impedance side (not as simple as +/- unfortunately). Don't worry, though; if you get it wrong, it's not hazardous to your amp. Electrolytics, on the other hand...

Re: Tele bridge feedback on Express
Yeah, the Callaham bridges have holes so you can screw the front of the bridge down if that's an issue. Suppose you could drill your own and hit the hardware store if you wanted to give it a shot.
Just to be clear - the pups that are howling DON'T have a brass/steel plate on the bottom, right?

Re: Finally Building JTM45: Stupid Questions As They Arise
Are you talking about the electrolytics or the signal caps? The 'lytics are the only ones that REALLY matter (IMHO).

Re: Another soldering station recommendation
Another fan of xytronic here. I have one of the old versions with the dial temperature setting vs. the newer digital readout, but I'll keep using this one until it dies.

Re: Repeated arcing on pins 2 and 3 - JTM45 content
Hey, Tom! I must've read your mind...I have that same switch now (that's an old pic where the Weber switch was still installed). If I rewire it, I may go ahead and build a different amp into this, anyhow. It really just has too much headroom for me (and I don't like pedals all that much). Thinking o...

Re: Repeated arcing on pins 2 and 3 - JTM45 content
Yeah, I've heard of doing that. Don't the diodes fry on the first incident, though? I agree that it's cheaper than tube sockets/OTs, but I really want to get to the root of the problem. I may implement that once I get the final solution to help prevent future damage, though. Definitely can't hurt! O...

Re: Repeated arcing on pins 2 and 3 - JTM45 content
I've checked the switch (and checked again when I wired a new one in) but you never know. I'll give it another look. By the way, although it's cloth covered wire, there is some kind of rubber insulation underneath it. It's the Weber wire, if that makes a difference. It is killing me that it only see...

Repeated arcing on pins 2 and 3 - JTM45 content
Got a problem that's been plaguing me since (I thought) I finished this project...It's a Weber 6M45 kit (their take on a JTM 45). I beefed up the bias filtering and added separate bias controls for each tube. Also went with cap cans vs. their standard cap board (which is quite a pain). The screen re...

Re: How much Tru-Oil for a cherry cab?
I've done multiple guitar necks, a small 5f1 combo, and the head cab in my avatar with one of the small bottles. However, I bought a 32 oz. on Amazon because it was marginally more expensive for what you get.

Re: New member - Hello
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! Yeah, this amp is slowly killing me...It sounds good for a while, but I give her the old stress test, and *POOF*...arc on pins 2 and 3 of V4 and a popped HV fuse. It's a Weber kit that I bought as a project from someone else. Lesson learned there...I've replaced th...

New member - Hello
Hello all! I was recommended to this forum by a friend of mine from another forum who is also a member here (Structo). Got an amp problem that's giving me fits, but thought I'd introduce myself before getting right to the begging! I'm pretty new to amp building. My first amp was a 5e3 four or five y...
