Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Yeah that's true. I just have always wondered about the extra through hole that didn't get used. The board doesn't look as cooked as the old ones either. I saw the amp before the transformation but I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the board. Anyway I not trying to be judgmental of Dumble for...

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Trust me, it was a Tweed 5C3 Deluxe before it was modified. I think one of the things Tonemerc is implying is that the board is original. I never noticed it before, always assumed the board was replaced but looking at the layout, eyelets and holes could have been added to the original board. That is...

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Early fifties Tweed Deluxe had three inputs.

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

I offered to gut it for him BEFORE he took it to Alexander but Dumble don't roll that way.

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Hello, PI has 110k and 100k. The metal film maybe looks like two orange bands but they are brown. All preamp tubes are 12AX7. Also the trim pot doesn't change the total value of the cathode resistance. It just changes where the signal comes off of it.

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

The funny thing is apparently Alexander(or someone) spent hours cleaning and touching up the tweed on this thing. The inside of the chassis was meticulously cleaned also. I was asked about the transformers. Both are the originals. I guess some of the big wig guys have gotten these tweed amps and the...

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Hello Jelle, I think the red crayon Astron is the original cap left from the amp! It is a .005 and the mica is 500pf. All the pots are 1 meg.

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Hello Tony, the 10k trim pot is a voltage divider on the cathode of the phase invertor. One end goes to the 4.7k resistor that goes to the cathode of the tube at the junction of the 1meg grid resistor. The other end has the 33k and 56k in series to ground. The wiper feeds the signal to the .1 cap. A...

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Yes Aaron. You go buy a vintage tweed deluxe. In this case, an early fifties version. You give it to Dumble (that is if you know somebody that knows somebody) and this is what he gives you. Oh yeah, he keeps the vintage alnico speaker. He does tweed Champs also.

Re: Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Thanks Jelle. This amp sounded great but man it really heated up like a space heater. The customer asked Alexander to make it rock with a Les Paul and that it did.

Any interest in seeing some Dumble Tweed Deluxe photos?

Hello, I just finished my Low Plate Classic and it sounds great. I really hit this forum pretty hard for information and I thought maybe I should give a little back. Dumble does these amps where you buy a vintage tweed Deluxe, he guts it other than transformers and rebuilds it his way. I had one to ...

Re: Wire routing, Over coaxial or under?

Thanks Kassie, yeah that seems like the best way to go. I am using 20 gauge solid hookup wire and rather thick Gepco shielded so getting everything routed nicely under the boards is a bit of a challenge.

Wire routing, Over coaxial or under?

Hello, I am about to install my preamp board and wondering if it is ideal to slide the power tube grind wires, presence control wires, and loop in and out wires under the coaxial or lay them on top. It seems to me that routing them under keeps them away from the plate supply high voltage but laying ...

Plate Supply Wire Routing

I am working on my first Dumble build and I am wondering about the preamp plate supply wire routing. Should they be high and tight under the board with the shielded cables running underneath or down low against the chassis with the shielded cables going over the top? I thought I could figure this ou...
