Thanks, Dogears!
Reflecting back on the last decade, I want to acknowledge Scott Lerner as the single most influential person on my musical journey. Many years ago on guitar.com, Scott befriended me and introduced me to Dumble (Fuchs) tone. He was, and still is, a monster jazz guitarist. I had just started playing g...

Re: Microsoft Vision Professional 2007
Mark, Visio 2003 for $49 will take you a long way. I personally don't like any of the Office 2007 products as much as I do the 2003 products...including Visio. The Professional version has a lot of design tools that you will never use (unless you're doing database schema, workflow mapping, etc.). I'...

Re: Could HAD clone HAD?
IMHO, yes he could. This is a man who has been designing and building amps for at least 40 years, probably more. I believe he has internalized concepts that most of us still struggle to understand. Where I might try "cloning" to get his sound, he knows the source of the tone. Whether he would choose...

Re: Anyone prefer Alnico speakers for D-Style amps?
IMHO, the blackbird works well in a compact combo. Keeps it from sounding small and boxy. The gold (as mcinku stated) sounds really good with the bluesmaster circuit for cleans and crunch, but gets a bit fizzy with PAB engaged. I also tried an alnico Fane, but didn't have time to break it in. (On lo...

Re: lead dressing
The routing of heater wires depends on the lead dress from the board to the tubes. The objective is to keep heater wiring from introducing hum into the signal circuit. Many ways to do this, as you have discovered by looking at different amp circuits. Notice that Dumble runs his signal wires against ...

Re: A Trainwreck Thread
In the interest of time, I captured all of the relevant info from the thread and pasted it here: This thread should be titled "The Lost Art of Researching Your Topic" That being said, this thread has become a vacuum devoid of useful and/or interesting discussion. I feel sorry for myself that I'm sti...

Re: Yet another D-Style Amp......
There's a strong attraction to enter the clone market. (Low cost of entry, readily available information and parts, and very satisfying work.) However, IMHO, the struggle of starting and running a business overshadows the joy of building amps. I wish these startups well, but don't expect to see them...

Re: Popping from standby switch
The problem with my amp turned out to be a bad power connection to the relay board. (cold solder joint) It caused both the relay and the diode to fail so as the symtoms became worse, the problem was easier to find. Replaced the relay and diode and standby switching is dead quiet.

Re: Rocket Combo Takes Off
Hmmm...maybe I've been looking at the wrong speakers. I tried the G12H30s at Loren's house and just assumed they were Heritage series. I'll give him a call and confirm which ones they are.rawnster wrote:Unless you're talking about the Heritage series...

Re: Rocket Combo Takes Off
Sounds great! I was really impressed with the balance and note seperation. (Especially the chords at 1:40 in "Grow Me") The KT66s have a little softer texture than EL34s. I'll have to give them a try. FWIW, the best speaker I've heard so far with this amp is a G12H30. I just wish they weren't so exp...

Re: Rocket Combo Takes Off
Normster is that Rocket Reverb layout for two EL34s available in tubes up version? I just reversed the image but then lettering is in pig latin. :) Mark Did you try holding it up to a mirror? All of my layouts are on another computer. I'm pretty sure I have two versions (flipped and normal). ...

Re: Popping from standby switch
Yes, and already have the cap in place. I'm going to try 1K screen resistors per Gil. I'll report back.Structo wrote:Do you have the first filter caps wired so they are charged when you flip the power switch?
If so, try a .01 - .02uf 1Kv ceramic across the standby switch terminals.

Re: Popping from standby switch
I'm willing to try the center tap fix, but the problem is recent so I don't want to mask a failing component. (I guess I should have stated that in the beginning.)
Would it help to increase the screen resistors to 1K? (Currently 470R.)
