Re: Chassis and faceplate match

Hmm. Would these support 100 watt iron? The stock configuration seems a bit natural for a vintage Orange clone.

Re: "Twenty" v2: Traynor Bass Mate YBA-2

I don't think I'd ever seen anybody mount a radial power cap like that -- pretty clever way to keep costs down and layouts tight. Do you need to give them a shot of glue to hold them in place or anything like that? I thought the Bassmates were EL-84. Were there 6V6 variants or are you just changing ...

:D

That $55k is just the shipping cost.
:D

I have a single tl-806 and while it's kind of handy on a smaller 412 substitute level, it's more the space than the weight that you're sparing yourself.

Re: High end overdrive

It's a gear polisher's conundrum: It's all original . . . but it isn't handmade by unbalanced individual who is popular on the forums right now. It's a proven sound that's been in steady use for decades . . . and doesn't have the latest hotness in unicorn tears and manticore piss enhancing the signa...

Re: PCB Power Board Fabbed

Looks like a solid idea, kind of like the Dumble "Precision" power supply.

I'm used to PCB's for pedals -- any special concerns for selecting boards for very high voltages?

A brownface with harmonic tremolo? You're killing me.

Re: Magnatone is back

I wonder 1) if they've found a current workalike varistor and 2) if so, if they are going to do like Gibson with the fraudulent "bumblebee" caps of potting something else on top to make it look like the original or proprietary.

Re: Orange DIVO VT1000 Tube Tester

Some stills provide a little more info maybe: http://www.orangeamps.com/products/accessories/amplifier-management/vt1000/ Looks like it doesn't test anything that isn't pretty standard issue, and no rectifiers. Found a box of octal preamp tubes at a yard sale? Well, tough luck. This will appeal to s...

Re: Vintage MXR Micro Amp ATTACKED by Disintegrating Gray Foam!!

All I know is to yank the foam early and often. I've had some disintegrations in a rack compressor and an EV mic, too. The downside on the mic was needing to put a new sleeve in and wonder if I'll be any better off on that in 25 years.

Happy to hear any cleanup tips.

Magnatone is back

http://www.magnatoneusa.com/ Press release stuff: http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/Daily/News/The_Magnatone_Brand_is_Relaunched.aspx Association with Saint Louis Music is perhaps suspect. Billy Gibbons' endorsement will have some skeptics. A practical question emerges for DIY-ers: are the...

Re: Fender Sleeper Amp? Brown Deluxe!

I don't think there's anything that exotic about the 6G3, just that the combination of 2 6V6s, fixed bias, and LTP and just a Tone instead of TB or TMB kicks serious booty. There might be a bit more gain due to the tone control instead of TB or TMB, but there's tons of gain dropped by the voltage d...

Re: Desinging a House (with a music room/studio) from scratch

ER is onto something on the resale front. Design the room so it works perfectly in line for people's expectation of what a home theater should look like. What are the standard amenities that go with? Wiring for an overhead projector, a machine room, kitchenette stuff? Build them in now or allow for ...

Re: Two clean channels in one amp

Some of the brownface Fenders with two knob eq's are similarish to the Baxandall/James stack. Might (or might not) be a smoother graft into an otherwise Fender amp.
