Frankly, I've never liked Mesa amps. They sound good, but I always thought their playing feel/response was "tight". I've always loved the Peavey Classic series amps, and the c30 is compact and fairly lightweight, but not a lot of options. If you want a more powerful combo with additional functions, ...

Beautiful job!

This is real close to what my buddy wants,..see pic. I haven't verified much except that it will come on, but the entire unit looks almost brand new, not even much dust inside. I'm considering trying an idea I have, mostly because it won't take much to temporarily try it. I'm thinking of : 1) tie th...

Bell Carillon 35

A local musician wants me to convert this unit to a guitar amp. It looks pretty do-able, but I wonder if anyone here has modified one of these,..I see a lot of discussion on the web re this model.

Suggestions?

Re: potentially maxing output distortion, minimizing pre amp hum

I'd suggest going thru the amp (carefully) and touch a grounded probe to the output side of the signal capacitor coming off each preamp tube section. If you find a node where the probe silences the hum, you know the problem is between that node and the previous node. That should pare down the number...

goodrich steelman volume pedal (dual photocell)

I tried to modify this pedal years ago, but that didn't work right, and I tossed it in a bin.

Anyone got a schematic?

0ut of the box

I assume you are wanting to be able to use the variac to lower the power of the amp. I wanted the same thing years ago, and tried the variac solution. I didn't like the extra weight, nor the fact that as all the voltages thru out the amp changed, and so did the sound and response. Try a VVR with a 6...

Another way to Control Output

Nobody here has tried this, but it's simple and effective. Put a 25 W variable resistor in line with your output tube heaters (I'd suggest using DC heaters). Lowering the voltage there lets the entire amp, except the output tubes, to run exactly as stock. The output tubes don't attract as many elect...

Firefox Upgrade

I bought a new display and upgraded to Firefox 28 about the same time a few weeks ago. I immediately noticed that I was getting words "overlaping" both vertically and horizontally on some sites. I just got the latest download installed, but I have the same problem. The same pages opened with Safari ...

Re: Lab Series L5

I've been through the same process. Some months back I tried to find some pots for my gallien krueger 212G (circa 1975). They, and many others from that era simply aren't made anymore. I think you have two choices: 1) buy a "parts" amp of the same model, OR 2) bite the bullet and wire in some readil...

Dial Markers

Chicken Head

This reminded me,....has anyone seen any of the "wire" dial markers like the old Bogen PA amps had? Made it easy to get back to a particular setting.

Improve the sound

I bought a couple of these a few years ago, ostensibly just for those heavy duty Peavey EV12L clone speakers. Hooked up the 60 a few weeks ago and wasn't as keen on the overdrive sound as I was in 1995, so I went on the internet and found a couple of mods that really improve the voicing. Mod 1 takes...
