Improve the sound

I bought a couple of these a few years ago, ostensibly just for those heavy duty Peavey EV12L clone speakers. Hooked up the 60 a few weeks ago and wasn't as keen on the overdrive sound as I was in 1995, so I went on the internet and found a couple of mods that really improve the voicing. Mod 1 takes...

Re: Bonamassa amp rig with Greg Koch and Brandon Montgomery

I've never heard of this guy, but what a powerful player!!! The band intensity reminds me of ABB at their peak.

Anybody tell what's that little amp he's using? I'm sure he could ring out those sounds on anything, but that is a killer sound for a small rig.

Never heard of this

I've never heard of burning in an amp in this manner. I'm sure it can't hurt, but I'd think a better way would be to put all the tubes in and use a Variac to slowly bring up the voltage. And, i can't see much point in dropping your voltage 15 volts. That's a 3% difference that I'm pretty sure is not...

Just do it!

I think any prospective amp builder who believes he can get everything from a manual is wrong,..and lazy. It's all about experimentation, and that's the fun of doing this!!! Start with a basic circuit you like and try some different values in it. The best sounding amp I've built was done over the co...

Re: Howdy guys, need help with a Fender 65 SRRI.

Try removing your preamp tubes 1 at a time, starting with the PI and working toward the front of the amp: If you still get the noise with the PI removed, the problem is in the power amp section. If the noise is gone, you know the problems is somewhere toward the front. You ought to be able to narrow...

Lazy

I'm lazy, and also kinda picky about symmetry. I've used this method on several amps. NO NOISE

Re: Question about touch responsive amplifier design

Re the question about cathode stripping, etc., I really don't know. I've read that this is a problem only affecting transmitting tubes. I don't know how many hours the amp was played over the last 10 years, (I estimate the amp was used about 50 hours during the trial use before I sent it to the owne...

Re: Question about touch responsive amplifier design

My amp started as a beat up Fender "Twin Amp" 5E8. It had been previously modified, so I pretty much gutted it. I used the chassis and made a PC board to fit. The trannys are the original stock Fenders. I never really thought about the positive gain loop, but maybe that contributes to it's ability t...
