Re: Noob Capacitor question

ah ok, i will give that a try.

i feel kind of silly asking ultra-noob questions on a forum with advanced builders - but am quite impressed with the friendliness and attitude ointhese boards. :D thanks a lot!

Re: Noob Capacitor question

hi andy, thanks for the assistance... that doesn't seem to solve my problem though. if a transofrmer's secondary is rated at 12VAC, shouldn't this suffice to heat up the filaments (4-5) of a 12AX7? for some reason, the voltage drops to 7V when 12VAC is connected to pins 4-5. is it the transformer th...

Re: Noob Capacitor question

i didn't want to being another thread for yet another silly noob question - but i must ask this: i've all but assembled my lil wreck (2X12au7 SE designed by El_Martin, built from whatever i have lying around), am in a bit of a quandry now though - i picked up a couple of inexpensive trannies (12-0-1...

Re: Noob Capacitor question

hi stanz, thanks for the explanation. i did a bit of research on Ltec, and their reputation isn't all that good after all - most people seem to sub the caps for other brands like sanyo. i think the caps should suffice for the 12AU7 projects on hand, for larger projects i will look for more reliable ...

Noob Capacitor question

hi all, i'm putting a couple of projects together - the firefly amp, El_Martin's Lil wreck and have a couple in the pipeline. since i moved to india,, sourcing some parts has presented some difficulties - axial capacitors are difficult to find, and axial 450v are pretty much unobtainium. i need to r...

Re: Understanding the Signal Path through the Circuit

From pin 1 signal goes toward the 3rd triode via .022pf cap (how does this cap affect the signal?)and 1.5k resistor then enter pin 2. ^^ i imagine you mean 0.0022 µF cap and 150k resistor - 0.022 pF would be like entering tinnitus country. :D this is highpass filter. roll off at about 483 Hz. somet...

Re: 2Watt_BluesExpress_Version1 by timohp

Hi, here are the requested docs! Have fun and rock! Timo Hi ODwan I'm thinking of building the Tiny Tube Express to the design that you posted. I'm in the U.K where our mains voltage is 235 -245v, is it possible to do away with using a PT completely as the mains voltage is so close, this would cut ...

Re: Lil' Wreck -mini Watt amp - how lo can U go?

Well, flood, that's no noob question. It's serious. Currently I connect the personal earth via twho (!) flying leads to the chassis. Generally I use ground fault circuit interrupter switches with this/my builts. Once implanted in a wooden (insulated) housing, the connector can/iwll be changed to in...

Re: Lil' Wreck -mini Watt amp - how lo can U go?

hey there! it looks great, but i do have one question (a very noobish question) - when using a wall wart in back-to-back configuration, how do you ensure that no HT is conducted by the chassis? i see you are using a metal chassis, and i haven't got this one figured out myself yet. thanks for your in...

Re: Is there a 2X EL84 output trainwreck schematic?

hi, first post on this forum. i believe there are a couple of 2X EL84 designs in the well-circulated wreckxpr.pdf file - these aren't liverpool designs thoug, they're blues express versions. hope this helps - i'm pretty much of a noob, but think that this forum would be a great place to learn more a...
