Re: can someone help me add brighness to this amp? w/Schematic

I still think you should try disconnecting that .0033 cap, C7 in the schematic. with that disconnected you would have 440k (2 *220k in series) bypassed with a 500pf cap, this would give a treble peaking filter.

Re: can someone help me add brighness to this amp? w/Schematic

That silver cap is the cathode bypass cap for the 6v6's, (I think). It's hard to tell from the picture but is the right side of it, with the +++, connected to that point with the red/yellow wire, the black wire, the white wire, and the negative end of the big blue 20uf caps? That solder joint looks ...

Re: can someone help me add brighness to this amp? w/Schematic

I don't know what type it is but it will be going from pin 3 of one 6v6 to pin 3 of the other 6v6. According to the schematic, there is only the leads from the output transformer and that cap that connect to pin 3 of each tube.

If you can't find it, take some pictures, we love pictures. :)

Re: Red Bear MKE60 with LOW LOW output?

not at every tube, at some point in the heater circuit run a 100 ohm from both sides of the 6.3vac to ground (2 - 100 ohm resistors required).

Re: can someone help me add brighness to this amp? w/Schematic

you might try removing that .002 cap that is across the OT primary.

try removing that .003 cap, C7 i think it is, the one by the two 220K resistors

Re: Can anyone explain to me, the orange shield wire on PT?

I think it is to confuse us. I just ground that wire on one of the PT mounting bolts and call it cookies. I suppose there is a fancy explanations for it, like to feed harmonically aligned electrons into the shield to thwart the degeneration of the lamination crystal structure, but I was gone that da...

Re: Second Master Volume

theoretically that should work. You don't need any 470K with this arrangement. The resistors are not 10 ohm, they are 10 MEG ohm. put them across each place that you are switching to help reduce pops, although I think this is still going to make noise when switched. So, there would be a 10M from the...

Re: Red Bear MKE60 with LOW LOW output?

what I am saying is that someplace in the circuit the 6.3vac has to be referenced to ground. It was done before with one leg of the heaters tied to ground. The most common way to do this is to tie a 100 ohm resistor from each leg of the 6.3v to ground.

Re: Second Master Volume

You said this is a 50w plexi with a master volume, this is after the tone stack, right? The plexi's didn't have a master volume but it was common to add one after the tone stack. The thought just crossed my mind that these 1meg pots with the mix resistors might be in the pre-amp section. Is that whe...

Re: Red Bear MKE60 with LOW LOW output?

Is that the input jack in the pic?

Did you reference the heater supply? It was referenced to ground before with the one leg tied to ground. What are you doing now? 100ohm resistors to ground?

Re: generating bias voltage question

If you don't mind another transformer in the chassis, Triad makes some neat little transformers called flatpacks. They lend themselves to mounting on an eyelet board, are quite small and come in a wide range of voltages. Since you are only doing bias with it, you don't need hardly any current. I hav...

Re: Tolex Arrrrgh!

Yeah, pretty much what iknowjohnny said. I use contact cement and the chemicals in that kind of make the tolex rubbery. Contact cement is no fun to work with though, it makes it hard to play guitar for about a week afterwards... the first chord you grab on the guitar is the one you're stuck with for...
