Re: Ginger Clone Project Progress (Completed!!!)
Everything Dana said.. the amp is killer! I was excited to see, hear how it sounded and responded. Has a nice woody tone to it. Played it through my 4x12 cab. Very smooth and musical sounding... As he said both the express and Liverpool are really great amps that have there own vibe. I think it would...

Re: Caps?
that should get me goin on the two (easier to A/B stuff if you have 2 identical amps right) I am getting started and some extra values for experimentation Yep good idea.. also remember, their are alot of things out today that was not around when Ken built these amps..so you may find something that ...

Re: Tube Rattle
some tubes ..even new do have rattles..some don't.. you can pull the tubes and hold them to your ear, lightly tap the glass and listen to see how much looseness or rattles they have.. Power tubes can be microphonic..sometimes really bad. Not alot you can do,but use different tubes that don't have the...

Re: anybody have any soundclips of their trainwreck replica?
No clips yet of the ones we have been building.. Dana{ Ur12} did get some good video, although the sound is off the video camera at a live show.. so thats not the best quality. The band[American Minor] took the amp with them for this leg of their tour,so if you wanted to hear the amp in a live show.....

Re: Effective cost?
as with any amp it can vary from what parts you use. Some cost much more than others.. But what people have been posting is a good ballpark figure. Although you could spend a few hundred dollors on NOS tubes alone..

Re: Bias Problem
I would pull the power tubes.. turn the amp on and see what the bias voltage is on pin 5.. with the bias pot turned up a bit.. you should see around 35 neg volts.. if its not there.. check and make sure the wire feeding the bias does not have a cold solder joint, going from the power board bias secti...

Re: Now that we have built them.........
we will soon see.. we have 2 amps with exact same parts, well try the different taps and see which sounds best..well sounds best to my ears. Then we'll try it against a 3'd built amp that is here.. It is a bit different in transformers..the rest is the same as the others.. It will be fun to try..and ...

Re: Can you guys hear a difference between solid core wire?
Why not buy a clone? Actually, this question points to what really makes Trainwreck amps exceptional. There are companies out there cloning Trainwreck amps. It’s not hard to do because the circuits themselves are not very complex. But the clones never sound nearly as good. You see, Ken knows exactl...

Re: Now that we have built them.........
Yes but he also said this.. """The new Trainwreck designed circuit as well as Ken's specially designed power and output transformers; offer a new sound for this model. Unlike the Komet 60, Ken designed the Limited to operate exclusively with EL 34 power tubes. This allowed him to design the circuit ...

"""12BZ7"""
Yes the data says what you described..bit useing these as a swap for a 12AX7.. the 12BZ7 is most likey to be more microphonic..and have alot more noticable hum.
