Re: Fenderish to OD
This is eerie...I've been pondering the same idea! I'll try to study your schematic and see if it makes sense. I just finished gutting my Blues Deluxe and putting in an AB763 circuit. I'm stunned with the clean tone of this beast. Now I want more of that in my Bluesmaster. Where I'm thinking i...

Re: First Build - should i do champ kit? what the best source?
It never gets rave reviews, but "Building Valve Amplifiers" by Morgan Jones is at the top of my reading list. Jones rambles a lot and throws in more theory than I can to know, but the book is filled with lots a great tips about how to build amps. As for a first build, I only have two suggestions: 1....

Re: Bluesmaster - getting rid of excessive bass - SOLVED= D'lato
FWIW, I've been using 250KA pots for bass since my first BM build. 500KA was over the top. You might also try a 68k slope resistor to tighten things up.

Re: Reverb on 124
FWIW, I would NOT use the 124 layout that Tony posted. I was experimenting with tube rectified 6V6s at the time. The amp worked, but was not a great sounding amp. (Sold it to a friend that loves it but I never cared for the tone that much.) Also, adding to what Gary said, the reverb as it's shown in...

Re: Bluesmaster pre with non-hrm overdrive
I think that's the best Strat tone I've ever heard through a Dumble-style amp! Awesome playing, BTW.

Re: Gibson Skylark(GA-5) 1960 filter cap.
Scratchy pot may be a bad cap...likely the cool looking bumble bee connected to the pot. Check for DC voltage. If present, replace the cap.

Re: Belton tube sockets
Just a thought...if you find that your sockets are loosening up, it could be from bent tube pins. If you don't have one, find a good pin staightener. I've gotten in the habit of using one and never have problems with loose sockets.

Re: Cable for Footswitch
Thermostat cable probably won't hold up since it's solid core. Too much flexing and it will break. However, there's something very similar called "security control cable" that works very well. Home Depot and Lowes carry it and it's very reasonable. Usually a gray jacket with 5 or 6 wires (stranded).

Re: Rocket Impressions
From my VERY limited exposure to hi-fi stuff, a sealed cab makes it a "bass-reflex" speaker. I know the hi-fi crowd is very picky about air leaks so maybe Jim is onto something by sealing the cab. I'm not even going to pretend to understand the physics involved. :? The Rocket Reverb with a Tele is m...

Re: Donar amp find, and an EVM recone question
After looking at the video, I'm sure you could do it, Bob. I've done surrounds, but no recones. Now you've got me thinking it's time to try one of those kits on a nasty sounding Mesa Black Widow.

Re: HI-FI Console Amp
If you haven't already done so, head over to audiokarma.org. There's a wealth of knowledge there and you may even find someone who knows about these consoles. Vintage hi-fi is a breed unto itself. Old gear was typically under-filtered and can benefit from larger caps. The original tubes are probably...
