807 push pull?

Hey all, was interested in building a medium-powered bass head using only 2 807s in push-pull with about 600V on the plates. i recall having read somewhere that it was possible to get 100W (continuous) from them without a problem.... does anyone have any experience with this tube, or how much power ...

Re: filaments above chassis

dunno about effectiveness (i'm beginning to use DC heaters for anything with OTT gain) but i have to say... that is one of the cleanest, nicest, most admirable builds i've ever seen. i think the finest build i've seen was one on this forum; something called the highway wreck. slightly OT question: i...

Re: Best sounding Fender push pull 6V6 amp?

hey there cliff, thanks again. my transformers are custom wound in india, so no major manufacturer that you would know... my objective is to include some sort of switching or biasing reserve that would allow me to use 6V6s for lower power (about 15W) and 6L6s for a bit more... i figured i might as w...

Re: Best sounding Fender push pull 6V6 amp?

I would like to take a look at it. I have been considering a Bassman build just have not decided on what flavor yet. i'm building a 5B6 (most likely as a gift for a family friend) using 6SC7s, 6SL7, EZ81 and 6V6. wanted to scale the original down to 25W or less, using an 8k CT output transformer. w...

Re: Best sounding Fender push pull 6V6 amp?

I built the Fender Bassman 5B6 with octal preamp tubes and it has a great tone it it. I have an updated schematic and data if you choose to go that route as the Fender schematic shows remote face plate. I would like to take a look at it. I have been considering a Bassman build just have not decided...

Re: Aluminum chassis question...

polishing seems to be an awful lot of work as opposed to just sanding a certain area.

i like the idea with the star washer the best - i think that would probably do the best job.

another question - material compatibility between aluminum and steel. what are the chances of ionic corrosion?

Re: Inexpensive Electrolytic Capacitors

all this is a bit scary... i think i'm going to stick to a local manufacturer called keltron - http://www.keltroncomp.com/kccl/products.html - instead of importing a brand that i can trust. a lot cheaper than anything i could import, and if i have a bad one, it's cheap enough to trash. if i have a f...

Re: stupid question about pots (n00b alarm)

thanks all. i think i'll just get on with life and make a sales exec at AES really happy :D seeing that practically everything around me is made in the far east or uses components that were made in the far east, i think the time to complain is long gone. or i'd better throw out my sony and insist th...

Re: stupid question about pots (n00b alarm)

i simply want to build an inexpensive product... not an inferior one! :D i'm not averse to using taiwan-produced stuff if it meets quality requirements though. although i would definitely prefer to buy american or german, i have the lousy feeling that it's not being made there anymore. that being sa...

stupid question about pots (n00b alarm)

not trying to win brownie points through sycophancy, but for a couple of weeks "buy american" kept ringing in my head.... back story: after a lot of urging and pestering, i've finally decided to stop mulling and give in to demands that i use my questionable skills to make my hobby pay for itself, an...

Re: (almost) first build advice needed - TW inspired

phil, any idea why the 2k2 0.5W resistor didn't burn up? i've NEVER seen a plate resistor that small. what are the effects other than the ones i've noticed - loss of gain and (to some extent) highs? the cathode bypass cap on V1 is 0.33 with a switchable 25u. on the clips, the 25u is in the circuit. ...
