Don't stop there. A schematic as well.

By the time this thread is done, he'll have a 4 tube Stancor-powered remote custom-painted in a Hammond #70011 enclosure covered in Amplified Nation tolex!

Re: Rocket too smooth

I like Colossal's suggestion (can even go to 120k.) You could also change the tone stack values to alter the f of the signal to sound more raw. MFowler's suggestion of lower preamp voltage will decrease headroom but maybe that's what you're after. You could also rebias the stages to be slightly more...

Re: Switchable secondary voltages on power transformer?

Considering that my princeton transformer doesnt carry a bias tap, would the bias resistor on the switch be necessary? Are you doing fixed bias? If so, and you want to have the bias change when you switch HV taps, you might want to have the third pole on the switch and switch the bias as well - the...

Re: EF 86 VS 5879

Why do you have R2 and R3 in series like that? Why not just one resistor?
R1 should probably be at the pin of the tube socket.
I like C5
I'd probably reverse the two tubes as you said.
I'd put a cap across R9
I'd probably put a R between C3/C20 if you leave it as is.

Re: transformers not attached to chassis??

Totally agree with this:

"Even though you plan on keeping the amp and not selling it, we should plan on the inevitable that when we either pass on or leave it to our kids, that it should be as safe as possible and follow industry standards such as UL and CE when possible. "

Re: 7-Octal: Rockster plus?

I am talking about the grid to cathode voltage being a difference of 169 volts at startup. Arcing could occur. Read the last few sentences of that link. As far as I know, even though the resistor/diode protection elements are not drawn in, Merlin suggests to have them with the bootstrapped CF (they ...

Re: 7-Octal: Rockster plus?

I was just trying to help. Without new pics how would one be able to adequately assist? The only suggestions I would have right now: -go over your schemo to make sure the circuit would actually work -make sure you soldered everything where it should be soldered -the 6SL7 is rated for 90 V g-k. At st...

Did you verify all Ck and CCs in the signal change to see if anything was changed prior to your receiving the amp? Perhaps there's too much bass being passed through...

Re: Spitfire-ish

I see now. I was on my phone's small screen last night. bean, do you have the line out wired up? I'd be interested to hear your comments about how well it works to send a signal into a delay pedal then into a 2nd amp set clean to add delay to a distorted signal? Or anyone reading that's done that, d...
