Re: Spitfire-ish

El84 are sensitive so you can clip a 470k to each 100k PI plate resister to make them 82k. This would reduce gain but also raise the PI's plate voltage. Quick and easy test. I am not familiar w the spitfire pre but the first stage voltage is fine. You might want to reduce signal into the second stag...

Re: New , Trouble from the start

Measure the signal at the two pots that control volume into second stage from each input stage? Are you sure those pots are wired in correctly?

At pin3 of V2 do you have any DC voltage? What is it?

Re: Yes if i need to i would like to use 4 op tubes

Blokes What does it take to do this. Brain surgery? Look, if you are on social security, and want to spend your money on an amp you will probably not like, go for it. However, you don't seem to have a plan of attack at all. You posted a schematic that you are not even following. Your PT/OT/choke ch...

As already mentioned an owner would have to own a soldering iron to change speakers, which is a common mod to cabinets. If it were me I'd be annoyed by this.

Re: Newbie needs help

It the cap shows damage, it is probably best to replace it. Agreed. Sounds like your cap was rated at a voltage below what you threw at it initially. What voltage does it read on the side of C1? THe 100U cap next to the rectification diodes? Your schematic is for an amp with 2 power tubes, and you ...

I also do what telentubes does. I can't play a guitar that is not set up well. Feels like the strings are hovering. Definitely a nailbiting deal, go to a luthier if you are not confident, and patient. I use feeler gauges as well. Greasy sons of b's... All this talk of JP, FYI I have a Jimmy Page wir...

Re: Marvel PTs

the only way to know any difference would be to weigh them. TM I would agree with this. Isn't this also a function of the wire gauge on the windings as well? I would be interested in learning more about what specific factors cause the current limit in a transformer: -lamination insulation? -coil wi...

Re: Tweed BluezMeister with 5879 OD

My experience with the 5879 tube is that it greatly benefits from a CF when used in the OD position (not so in the V1 position like on the HoSo56). I have used tube and mosfet cathode followers. I truly can not hear any difference between the two of them tone wise. The mosfet CF behind the 5879 sig...

Yes that was my point. Why wouldn't the designer put more voltage on the pentode's plate, and hence the PI cathode, to increase the headroom if this is supposed to be a clean amp?

Re: Interesting Phase Inverter

Its interesting on the schematic there are no big grid stoppers

I believe the big gs is for taming overdriven signals into this type of PI.

What's interesting to me is the 88V on the cathode with 475 VDC supply.

I don't think your v1b should be lower than your v1a

Are those in the correct order? or is v1b used as your input?
