Re: Cut control cap type

Thinking about this, the only signal left above the cut frequency that is not "cut" -3db will be the difference between the original signal on one leg of the PI vs the distorted signal passed through the cap (distorted by the cap/tubeimbalance and any phase shift from the cap) because the opposite w...

Re: SoLow Watt 12A_7

Put an inductor at the cathode bypass of the paralleled triodes on the first stage. Now, the initial idea borrowed from the excellent Manzamp schematic and none less than amazing work done by ic-racer. However the 1mH inductor didn't made any significant difference in the sound. Then I put a 500mH ...

Re: PT frying SS diodes?

check the op. he said he replaced a 6ca4 with diodes so it should be full wave. maybe he has a pic

Re: PT frying SS diodes?

Surfsup, I did use only two. Are you talking about running them in series? I tried that and the b+ dropped considerably, which is not what I was expecting.. As Leo says the voltage drop is negligible. Run in series all the same orientation (correct orientation)...do you have a picture you c...

Re: PT frying SS diodes?

Could be too low reverse voltage rating too. For 4007 it's above 660V alright, but the initial inrush spike has a habit of also introducing a higher voltage surge when you power on. Usually you see several 4007 diodes connected back-to-back in high voltage supplies, which at least is a slight attem...

Re: Determining Desired Resistance Empirically a Good Idea?

Steve if you know the starting voltage and the "voltage you want" why not just do the math? Knowing these voltages implies you have a scope (on AC) or if this is DC, a DMM. So if you know the math for the voltage divider, I would think that is the easiest way.

But I may have misinterpreted your post.

Re: New Project - Bassman Lite Octal

Guys, I've been reading with interest. Did you see my thread on Mitchell Pro-100 ? I have a quad of Electro Harmonix 6L6GC with 483 on the plates. I have 470R screen resistors, and a choke between OT CT and screens, but I can't detect any voltage drop on the screens compared to the plates, given th...

Re: SE Boogxpress

"15n on my part" yowza...glad you changed that. I figured there was too much bass. the first stage GS might stop some parasitic oscillation that is developing through the amp into audible at the end. Use a 22k to a 47k - will not attenuate any frequencies you will hear - not even close. Use a 1W met...

Grid stopper on stage 1?
Lower the 5n there for cc to stage 2?

Maybe it can help.

Re: SoLow Watt 12A_7

"Crackling is still there" - this is usually due to a poor solder joint or DC where it's not supposed to be. (imo) The earlier clips sounded a bit bassy - even on laptop speakers. This last clip sounds a lot better. I am building a home but once I'm done this is one of the first projects I plan to d...
