Re: SUPERTWIN (RM): converting from SS to a AC3 Twin Top Boost

Fine job, LuciMan ! Your SuperTwin looks like to be the GrandBrother of my AC3 Top Boost  [img:640:480]http://img10.hostingpics.net/pics/303590IMG_3367.jpg[/img] [img:640:480]http://img10.hostingpics.net/pics/669128IMG_3368.jpg[/img] [img:640:480]http://img10.hostingpics.net/pics/148604IMG_329...

Awesome work, but not ptp. Somehow people have a trouble with this, it starts here and then just keeps building simple as that, can't get anymore expository than this:

OK - I may have not seen it the above posts, but : did you tried to swap input and output cables of the reverb ? I too often service bad reverb/no reverb sounding amps which have the tank connected in the wrong sense...

Re: Unknow O.T. Check my maths.

Also note that with that high of a test voltage and the low line frequency you may be getting some core saturation. Exactly. You should have found a greater difference than 1.5% between loaded and unloaded... Additionnally, 50 or 60Hz are probably too low frequencies for guitar audio output transfo...

Re: Santana Amp KIT? anyone?

Well... With my MKIIA and my ES-335 or Hagstrom Viking, I don't need nothing else, and the LONG sustain is obtained in lead mode, with the boost engaged, which gently keeps on feedbacking, giving a smooth, unagressive, kind-of-endless sustain. The MKI does the same, except that it has not the channe...

Re: Unknow O.T. Check my maths.

Repeat the measurement with 4R load on secondary side. If you're using a variac to excite the primary winding than by all means go to 200V or higher range. This will give results closer to the conditions in normal use. A second test to do is to determine ratio from each half of the primary to secon...

Re: Homemade power tube retainers?

For 12AX7, when non-shielded, I use big guitar string to model my tube spring retainer, because it is simply not so evident to find. For 6V6/6L6 etc... I bought it... That's cheap !

Re: EV Force 12

The EV FORCE speakers can't be bad, for sure... I never had one in hands, but I know that it has been installed in 10" version in the famous Fender Super Champ Deluxe. The ones I own are the EVM12L original vintage ink-stamped label and the EVM12L BlackShadow built for Boogie : both are premium qual...

Re: How to measure primary impedence of a unknown output tranny

As long as you use a low voltage to stay well away from saturation the reading at 60Hz should be valid, no ? It should, but you often find differences with the 400Hz measurement, due to the transformer's laminations and windings quality. These differences are not huge, but it could represent as far...

Kagliostro,

Here in Europe (France, Italy) we are still in 2011 for circa 1H30mn at the time of writing... And USA should follow circa 9 hours later, if I am right.

Avec un peu d'avance, Meilleurs Voeux à tous pour cette nouvelle année 2012 à venir !

Re: differential voltmeter!

I have a old Fluke75! As far as I remember the FL-75 is not true RMS, but has a bandwith of 50Hz to 1KHz, and an input impedance at least equal to 10M, so if you set your generator at 400Hz, it would be convenient for a proper balance. Nonetheless, I also like - and use - analogic test equipment : ...

Re: differential voltmeter!

Sergio, I'll be to old school, but attached to analog equipment Me too... But that doesn't mean that we are old school ! For me is the best way to this measurement! A good DVM can really challenge it - I own a FLUKE 87-III and a 87-V, but I must admit that these excellent instruments are not cheap.....
