Yeah, you have to be somewhat patient when ordering from komboking..he's not a speed demon in any sense of the term. I'm glad to see there is another custom source!

Re: Express Chassis
Hi, I don't know of anyone right now but Paul Ruby used to sell a chassis that could be used for a wreck (wasn't exact), but I use komboking. He will custom fabricate any chassis size you need. They are blank aluminum when they come in and you have to mark your layout and do the drilling/cutting. Th...

Re: Trainflex
Nice work Ross! I like the idea of having most of the mods in one document. I have several of these in my Express because I wanted more of the Komet sound. My amp is slightly thin in the bass department...I'm gonna have to tweak some more :D My Fast/Gradual circuit is slightly different but it is su...

Re: Approach to Harmonics
ampdoc1 brings up a very good point. The amp I built was purely based on the A1a schematic. I have never heard a real wreck in person, so I can only compare what I built to the few recordings on the net. My amp seemed to share several of the qualities I hear in the recordings. I have however seen, h...

Hi ampdoc1, Mighty interesting post and you make some very solid points. It seems that lots of folks like the mystical side of tube amps and I also enjoy some of the hoopla but in the end I like a more scientific explaination. I would sure like a copy of the files you mentioned also. Thanks in advan...

caps
Hi erigm,
The caps are made by UCC and have a tolerance of -10/+20%. They have a conservative voltage rating of 330vdc. They are available from Mouser under P/N 661-PH330 The cost is $2.23 per cap.

PS
Hi, I don't know if you can open visio files so I put a possible layout in a word document (zipped). I made this layout for my build and it worked great. This also has a corrected bias circuit for the A1a version. Let me know if you want the visio version. This is totally my take on the circuit, so ...

sozos
Hi Mark, I have Sozos in my express/komet amp. I do alot of hanging around 18watt.com and thats where I first heard of them. I used them in my initial build so I don't have anything to compare them to in this particular amp, but I replaced some orange drops in my Hi Octane with sozos and it did seem...

Prices!
***This is not a plug, it is for information on the availability of the transformers. I am not affiliated with nor have I ever done business with these folks. Phil at Heyboer is another way to get them. It takes longer but they are slightly cheaper. If you need them "NOW" then mojo is the way to go....

cap
Hi Chris,
I have tried a 47pf, 80pf and 100pf. I liked the 80 best. I now have a komet inspired high cut circuit here and it works great. It consists of a 250k pot (wired as a rheostat) in series with a .0047uF cap. If I get fatigued from the highs, I just dial some out and keep playing
