I did that for a guy who wanted to dial in an instrument. I put a brass screw type mil spec (bar type) on the preamp board (100K) in series with a 47K. I wouldn't use a pot on the front of the amp though.

Eric, ez81's will vary a bit. I've built a bunch of 18 watter and they are a little farty on the bottom end to me. I have one with sil. rect. (tightens it up a bit). Raise the Plate caps a bit and raise the cathode bypas cap some.

Sounds like you have a linear taper on the volume instead of audio. I've fixed a few amps that have had this problem. Plate voltages should be between 380v and 400v.

RHinson had some made a while ago at Heyboer and they were very good sounding. I had them made at Pacific with proper steel and they sound killer. They are based on The dynaco with a few changes.

I made an 18 watt/TW hybrid 6 years ago called The Ballbreaker. I'll try to dig out picks. There were some on 18watt.com but there site is screwed!!!
