You shouldt have a 25K presence pot instead of the 5K

No need to be embarrassed, because 'this' is it, for what forums are.mlp-mx6 wrote:I hate that I bothered you all with this when what should have been my first approach was not tried.

Re: amp quiet with a compressor in effect loop
Maybe the reason for the buzz and hiss w/o anything plugged in simply is a dirty/oxydated switching contact on the Return jack?Tdale wrote:... that if he puts a Carl Martin compressor in the effect loop of channel 1, all hiss and buzz goes away!
Put in a patch cable from Send to Return, to verify this!

Re: Noisy first and/or second stage - 60Hz hum
Michael, simply try another input tube - maybe then your prob is solved! I've experienced, that i.e. the reissue TungSol 12AX7's sometimes do have huge hum issues - sometimes permanently - sometimes the hum rises up after 5-10 min warm up of the tube. The TS's do have wimpy aligned filaments inside ...

Re: True Novosibir...
I'm sure it's possible he looked at more than a few other products for "inspiration". I'm even convinced about it  Btw. An interesting low-cut also might be the 'Slope Control' from the Marshall Bass amps - 3 RC networks cascaded and through a common pot to ground -> -12dB/Oct., although...

Re: from the looks of it
I don't see any inductors, unless they are real tiny... As he's already supposed: As far as I know, the Filters are indeed simply RC networks . And for building a network for tone shaping with a high edge steepness, it doesn't require inductors, when it's designed as an active topology around a tub...

Re: 6L6 grid resistor values
No problem with the 470 on the screens and 3.3K on the control grids, as long as you stick w/ 6L6's - EL34's although require 1K/5W on the screens and (at least) 5.1K on the control grids. I'm usually using 10K's on the control grids, the increase still isn't inaudible, but with 10K's I feel more on...

And also his voice is 'remarkable' for a 13 y.o. youngster

Shure, works flawless!Jack wrote:I wonder if using sort of a bright cap on the 50K pot "dampening" scheme would work?
But start with a very small value for cathode purpose! I'd recommend to start w/ a .0047 or a .01, soldered across the 50KC (rev. log.)

Re: NFB loop changes
No, as long as you keep the relation, but you also have to include the pres cap into the relation bill!
Example I: 100K FBR; 5K pot; 0.1 pres C
Example II: 50K FBR; 2.5K pot; 0.2 pres C

Re: Renamed Wreck Clones
For attenuation...you might wanna try to use a 50K rev log pot in series with the phase inverter's 470 ohms or so cathode resistor to starve the PI current. I know it'll sound different compared to a brake but it is a cheap and fast way to save a marriage! I got this one from a Marshall orie...
