Re: Modifying a vintage Ampeg B25 to a vintage Ampeg V3

Hello -- Unsure why it's so quiet around here today? Not even a mouse. You've answered most already, at least semi-implicitly. Suggestion would be to make the few feasibly switchable tweaks and listen. Disconnecting power stage negative feedback and add in bypass cap on V4a, and perhaps also adding ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification Best .. What a great article. Thank you! This has analogs in so many fields, actually.. every field I have stood in. "heh" but not like "heh.. funny!". Yes. It's not new, just recently in the news renewed. Though Cory's points specifically about tech-m...

Re: Rebuilt Transformers

Mercury in retrograde ?? Oh.. you! I saw Copernicus sitting at a fold-out table in a park with posterboard signage. G Galilei is right. Prove me wrong. Aright. So Mercury Magnetics have that restomod aura, though potentially costly. They also have a broad selection of suit to purpose contemporary s...

Re: Rebuilt Transformers

That would be frustrating all right. You and kato answered my questions perfectly. I have a plan to rebirth this amp into a confusing beast that looks straight but it's bent as can be. There is no way I will do it myself. I need to find an experienced winder with an understanding of exactly what I ...

Re: Overdrive Deluxe amp

Hello Guy — One nice thing about it not being bias trem is that we can play with all different size power tubes. 6L6, 6550, EL34. This one is on my bucket list as soon as I get through the pile of amps I need to finish LOL Fully agree this is one for some near future. Next year perhaps, and by then ...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving

Hello --

No snark, just an offer to share a bit a bit earlier if you wish. And believe it, Canadians here all are thankful too, like you. Skip your salad if that's pleasing.

Hmmm --

Y'all missed it about six and half weeks ago. It was quite worthy of thanks back then, so commend it in the future.

Enjoy yours however.

[...] Closing question: do you now plan to get on to doing PCB layouts? Best .. Ian Haha. Thanks. PCBs are above my pay grade, but it would fun to learn how to do them well. I will defer to the ranks. OK, fair enough. Asked for a few reasons. I did up board for the FET circuit and had to scratch to...

Re: The Pentode (Preamp) Homage to HAD

As Martin has already helpfully summarized and illustrated it works fine. To generalize, any pair of identical 6.3V tubes or even two dissimilar 6.3V tubes that happen to have the same current requirements (and therefore same filament resistance) can be series connected successfully.

Re: The Pentode (Preamp) Homage to HAD

Hello —

Cool package and project. Late I know for this particular party so apologies now. However, why not simply series connect the pentode filaments and use your 12VDC power feed?

Hello -- Overall reads clear and correct to my eyes. Caveat though, unlike Ryan & Erwin my knowledge of this design relies on some possibly practical reading here and no applied build experience. Have indefinite long-term plans to build something along these lines, so nevertheless quite interested i...

Re: Kay 703-based design

Hello -- I've never used a choke, so I'm willing to spend ~$20 to try something new. At Amplified Parts I see a couple of options in that price range - either 1.5H/56R or 3H/86R. Same price for either. Would the slightly lower cutoff frequency warrant the slightly higher voltage drop over the 3H cho...
