Re: OT Impedance Match with VVR
Martin, I see that, but I should have been a bit clearer in my post. I would be maintaining the OT secondary at the same setting, eg 8 ohms, not switching it around. The bias voltage changes though, at least in the 7591 datasheet page. See top of page 2. I thought the VVR does that as well as change...

Re: artificial heater center tap placement
I would put them on the terminal strip. Easier to access if you ever need to replace them, and looks better too, IMO.

Re: OT Impedance Match with VVR
I have been thinking about doing a VVR Express with 7591s. According to the datasheet this tube has a very flat impedance curve vs plate voltage, so presumably making the power output more or less linearly related to plate voltage, while maintaining the optimum impedance if you use a 6K6 OT. Did I m...

Re: Resistor types
CC resistors handle surge voltages better than most other construction. That is why some hifi guys like them as screen resistors. Personally I wouldn't use them as droppers in a power supply. Fender did and usually underrated them too. I had a '62 Deluxe that I bought with the 1k 2W dropper that eve...

Re: Cap composition and placement preferences
I'm not aware of any TW Express that used PP caps. The odd Dumble did though. In this type I generally use older NOS 6PS or (even older) chocodrops. (PP is a bit too bright for me). These were all difilm construction, ie mylar (polyester) and paper. This is cork sniffing I'll admit but difilm constr...

Re: WELL my car blew up
I recommend a pre-2013 Subaru Forester. I bought a 6 month old used 2012 three years ago. Put gas in one end and oil in the other, doesn't get more reliable than that. I did have to replace the original battery recently. Lasted 3 1/2 years--put in a 5-year guaranteed Canadian Tire battery. (Canadian...

Re: Sorry to bother you computer gurus again....
I tried it first but it seemed a bit clunky so I went for the full Outlook as I was already used to it.

I stopped buying used "refurbished" computers for the same reason.

Sorry to bother you computer gurus again....
...but I have a small problem developed on my new computer. Windows 10. When I try to reply to an incoming email, the reply body shows a tiny tiny illegible copy of the incoming, and will not allow me to enter anything to reply. Also does it on new email selection too. There is also a small dot ente...

Re: Computer Problem--Help Appreciated
I could not resurrect it y'day, power is permanently gone, so today I went to Best Buy and got a new one. ASUS K31. Also bought Outlook 2016. All works great now except I have to rebuild our email address book, and download all my files from my external drive, so I won't lose all that TAG info and m...

Re: Computer Problem--Help Appreciated
It's been on for seven hours now. I just moved the case a bit to check the caps and it lost the signal but the power stayed on. Shouldn't do that I would think? Caps look OK. The repair shop I took it to said that no generic PS would connect as the "connections are also proprietary to Dell". Origina...
