Re: If you had 2 vintage 30'
1936, or a staggered 2x12 if you don't like the width of the 1936. https://i.imgur.com/GIMQLRG.jpg I'd also suggest looking at Zilla's cabs. I built a copy of one of their OS 1x12's and like it better - so far - than TL-806 cabs. I'm not sure you can go wrong. Of course I'm a closed back guy. Russ

Re: What is it called, where do I buy it?
Hi Phil, Hiding imperfections or damage on bare wood is an art - most high end furniture stores have a dude [or dudette] or two that can work magic. Same with high end shotguns. How durable the repair is - unknown. Taking bits of matching wood grain from the underside and shaping it to fit was way b...

Re: [QUESTION] Birch Plywood vs Poplar vs Pine
When I oiled I used 33% mineral spirits and 66% boiled linseed oil as it will dry. I switched to lacquer - first brushed then I went to rattle can spray - as the oil dulled the wood grain as it aged and the gloss lacquer maintains the beauty of the grain better.

Re: [QUESTION] Birch Plywood vs Poplar vs Pine
Great replies from all! Another wood option would be African mahogany - most likely a wood store product not a home store - generally on the lighter side available in wide widths seems to be in the middle of the resonance curve between a higher grade pine vs. the BB style plywood. Dyed orange and la...

Re: 2x12 Cab with JBL E120 Drivers
Hi DrewbertCA, welcome to the forum! Building or buying? For sizes on closed back cabs I'd look at existing manufacturers for some size ideas if you're going to build the cab. I saw a tread on another forum about cab resonance and it referenced Zilla cabs as 'hitting' the resonance sweet spot - I'll...

Re: Favourite speaker boxes?
The guys from Zilla cab were refering this week to a softer front panel that would allow the cab to react differently on the Marshall Artiste.. Anyone has experienced this? Fred. I tend to be nervous about the baffle / front panel flexing as the pressure inside the box [closed back of course] ebbs ...

Re: Favourite speaker boxes?
Interesting thread ! I am on the verge of getting 2 EVM 10 L. I am wondering if I would be better with a 2x10 maybe Two rock oval open back, or these would be better in single Thiel ported cab ala Larry Carlton? What is your take on this one? Also what difference between Pine and plywood other than...

Re: Cab recommendation for Sterling-Hiwatt Lead 30 Head
Welcome to the forum! I don't have experience with Hiwatt amps so I'll give my usual answer that won't be quick, easy or necessarily economical. For speakers - which to me is 70%+ the 'sound' of the cab - I recommend playing as many types as you can get your amp / guitar into. This is where it's gre...

Geeze, your design on this is awesome! Would you be willing to share your designs, or generally what you did to recreate this so well? I just love it! Thanks! Practice practice and the willingness to experiment. As my wood mentor says when asked how he is able to create such beautiful acoustic guit...

Re: Favourite speaker boxes?
I've done a bunch of experimentation with cabs from 2x8, 4x8, 4x10, 2x12s to 4x12s over the years - all geared toward playing at loud band volume. For me nothing touches a 4x12 [prefer the straight cabs]. I've built a couple of the TL806 cabs with EVM12L's and while they sound nice and full they don...

Re: ODS Head Cabinet - Basic Crossbar Questions
Beautiful work, and extremely ambitious. I guess a matching cab would be extremely detuned. I thought about a speaker cab for about 2 minutes and then remembered the 200+ zebra inlays on the head - it was a big negative. Being a closed back fan thought of a plywood liner or 1/2" plexiglass. But aga...

I've found interesting fabrics at Joann's - a chain in the states. Also check places like Spoonflower they've got some colorful stuff.

New camera day.
One of the reasons I chose this sized cab was to fit small box [Marshall, that is...] cabs since I have one and some smaller.
