Re: Fiddleback Maple JMP 2203 headshell

How about after sanding back the black, apply a faded cherry sunburst, like an old Les Paul.
This whole project grew out of an experiment for an LP kit I'm planning to build. And like most things I do quickly got out of hand. Don't know if I'll do a 'burst but definitely a two tone finish.

Re: Fiddleback Maple JMP 2203 headshell

This looks fantastic; I love the color! Did you use a CNC to route the logo?
A dremel with a Stewmac plunge router base and a 1/32" tapered bit. Took about an hour.

Re: Fiddleback Maple JMP 2203 headshell

I'm experimenting with what to fill the logo - this is brass powder. It looks better on lighter wood - a bit 'stealthy'.

Brass & epoxy filled, dyed black and sanded back

I've waiting on more hues to arrive via Fedex.

Fiddleback Maple JMP 2203 headshell

In an effort to avoid starting a sapele chest of drawer build that the design hasn't quite jelled yet I decided to distract my self with this. I've built 1987/1959, JCM800 & Jubilee cabs but not the 70's JMP2203/4 style cab. Rough cut maple Test fit.jpg I use walnut blocks to simulate the plastic co...

Re: wraparound corners for 1/2 inch cabinets

When life gives you lemons...

To use what you have add in some wood ripped in an L shape, paint / dye black or an interesting contrast color to the black and [looks like pig skin] leather covering to fill in that 1/4" of an inch. Aluminum would work but harder to color.

Sorta late to the party - I have 1959, JMP2203 & JCM800 heads and am happy to take measurements you need.

Re: Speaker attachment

I'm a bit of a weirdo when it comes to speaker rear mounting non cast frame speakers. I drill a tap sized hole for 8-32 screws [so they'll cut 'threads' into the wood when turned in], counter bore to recess the head 1/8" or so and start the screws into the hole until I've got 1/4" left proud of the ...

Re: my first cabinet build

Looks good and square! What led you to that size?

Here's a great quote from a acoustic guitar building buddy about wood projects - 'Remember it's wood, if it doesn't turn out you can always burn it and deny it ever existed!'

Re: Box joints are kicking my butt-ox

The trick I've found with box or finger joints is the accuracy of the blade width of cut, the width of the key on the jig, a tear out board the exact height of the the cut AND consistent pressure on the jig as I push it through the slots. I drew a big arrow pointing left to remind me to push the jig...
