Re: Anybody Ever Do Business Here?

I've bought parts and a few chassis' from them. Tube sockets were good. Circuit boards were good. Chassis, ok. Lamp assemblies bad. Shipping was high. Oh the Marshall style handles were good too. I think some of the big distributors get stuff from them and mark them up a bunch! Their tweed looks lik...

Re: Should we make a guitar section?

My inclination was to vote yes. But I just voted no. There are already plenty of guitar forums , and pedal forums, etc. I believe that the forum creep would , in the end , make for a worse amp garage.

Re: Parts Connexion

They have been very good to buy from for me. They have a great selection of high end parts. Been getting cardas solder from them for years. Just ordered some 1/4w Takman film resistors for a SS mic pre I'm building. They had the best prices on them.

Re: Hi fi build issues, i.e. looking for reliable EL84

Try some sovtek el84m . They have been my go to el84 for years. I am not a fan of el84's in general, due to reliability issues. But the el84m have been the most reliable of all the modern tubes of this type in my experience.

Also known as 6n14n-EB.

Re: Mods for improving 5E5-A tone stack?

Glad your happy. One point though. To increase the Negative feedback you lower the resistor value. To reduce the amount of feedback you increase the resistor value. To remove the NFB you disconnect the resistor, leave the circuit open. you can put a control pot in place of the resistor and have a va...

Sunn 190L

This came in today along with the original Schematics. I gather these have not been posted to the innerweb yet. I might be wrong, often am. Looks really clean, I have not opened it up yet, Been slammed lately. Might get to it next week. The Sunn 190L appears to be a Sceptre or Solarus circuit. I und...

Re: Jensen & Super Reverbs

I had Freeman-Tuell recone 4 10's from a late 50's tweed bassman back in the late 80's . They did a fine job. I was attending the Dallas vintage guitar show for a couple of days and they got them done in time , so I could take em back with me. Fast and Friendly.

I meant to say I would not remove both feedback loops. Cant type anymore and never could.

Re: Mods for improving 5E5-A tone stack?

I run those changes with the stock nfb circuit. Removing the nfb will certainly increase the gain as well. I probably would do both. Since the tone circuit is passive, your throwing away gain at those frequencies the more you roll them down. I find the 5meg local feedback tends to squash and flatten...

Re: Mods for improving 5E5-A tone stack?

Might try lifting the 5 meg feedback resistor around V2.

I like to disconnect the 220k To ground as well, but then youll have alot more gain !

Maybe look at the 5e9a tremolux circuit. The tremolo is very nice and modulates the pi.

Re: vht/fryette phase inverter???

No ! , that is a bridge rectifier. Just make it like a standard Fender SS Diode circuit. Look up the AB763 schematic, say for a bandmaster . Its easy to do and you could do it with a tube rectifier socket even and have it switchable from tube to SS . I have done it with just one 1n4007 per side, but...

Re: 12AX7 exercise session

Interesting that the much maligned Sovtek's test closer to the vintage USA tubes than the rest. I always found the sino tubes to be a little harsh and nasty sounding to my ears, even if they have higher test numbers.
