Re: Cathode resistor and IM distortion

Tried to pm you but its stuck in my outbox? For better or worse, it remains stuck until the recipient reads it. <shrug> It's not really stuck. That's a feature that tells you the message has not been read. I like that feature. The bummer is that the forum software no longer sends out notifications ...

Re: What do you believe regarding the sound of passive components?

No harm in having a lively discussion as long as participants can remain civil. I agree. Keep it civil and gentlemanly. At the end of the day, the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. All you need to do is heat up your iron, put two capacitors and/or two resistors on a switch and A/B the...

Re: What do you believe regarding the sound of passive components?

R.G., With all due respect, just because you don't hear any difference between components that does not mean that one does not exist and that the rest of us that do suffer from some delusion. If people hear a difference between parts and want to discuss it, so be it. If you don't hear a difference, ...

Re: Steel String Singer 150w Transformers

Output transformer should be 2k2, with a good frequency reponse like a dynaco a451 I had Heyboer wind one for me for a bass amp. Sounded fantastic. It was nearly 11kg! Did they "can" it for you like the Dynaco originals? .. No, but I didn't ask them to. It was a massive transformer, as was the powe...

Thanks for the report on these, Charlie. I was wondering if they are aluminum or actual tin foil, like the old Red Astrons, or even a paper in oil?

Re: Amplifiers being played

Thanks for the rundown, Charlie. It sounds great. Seems like it has clarity with a fat grind but maintains separation. I love a good, cranked Superlead when they sound like the best horn and with the snarl and bite. I remember being not that keen on 183.
