Re: Magnatone build

Smokebreak, Did you stick to the original schematic? Have you measured voltages? I am especially interested in the cathodyne; how balanced or unbalanced it is. I should clarify...I am interested in the lower part count, directly coupled cathodyne. I found a post from Gingertube on another forum sta...

For the most part yes, but that was 10 years ago! Certainly I kept the PI and power section the same, as well as the vibrato section....als...

Re: Magnatone build

I would do this. Maybe change to an AC coupled cathodyne if not liking the DC coupled cathodyne. Only need 2 resistors and a cap. Steve, Do you know which Magnatone (or other) model that amp is that you posted the example of? The tone circuit looks interesting (as compared to a Tweed/18W type). Tha...

Re: Kind of a cool project.(Holdsworth harness)

I have been a huge Holdsworth fan for many years. He was a genius and a wonderful person. I was fortunate to see him six times and even got to meet and speak with him on a few occasions. His tone on Secrets using an early Boogie Dual Rectifier (s/n <500) into his Harness and reamped was probably amo...

That's one of two options. The other is hanging it from the OD2 plate.
I like that idea too, Martin.

Re: 20W Silver Jubilee Build

I built a 6V6 Plexi many years ago. It ran at 440V on the plates (JJs) and used a 7k6 20W Marshall OT. Fantastic sounding amp. I would probably go with the 8k taps.

Re: "New" 102 ish FET options ...

I really like the treble bleed. It helps balance the clean and OD tones. I usually build the amp without then use a pot and a .001uf cap to dial in to taste. I've always ended up between 100k and 150k. When building a board from scratch I add eyelets for the extra resistor and cap. On this build I ...

Re: PT for a 5E3 Deluxe

Well I’m finally beginning this build. Any opinions on Orange Drops versus something like Sozos or Jupiter capacitors? I’m still going to initially build it with the orange drops that come with the Mojotone small parts kit I have here but I already feel like upgrading to something more “authentic”....

The primary impedance for an Express OT is 6k6, not 7k5.
