Re: #124 NFB Resistor
My understanding is that for resistors to exhibit this behavior there must be around 100V across them. The NFB resistor does not get near that. See: http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/carbon_comp/carboncomp.htm Interesting article! I'm a believer in engineering over mojo. If someone had the incl...

Re: Starting a #124 Build - Progress
I also enlarged the pilot lamp hole to use a larger, bezel mounted blue LED for the pilot light. I'm gonna push the led at about 30-35mA and it is going to be wicked bright.... oh, and did I mention it is blue? Hehe. Looking great Steve! But dude, I beg you to reconsider the LED current. Been there...

Re: #124 NFB Resistor
I've always used 1 W resistors in that location myself and it's probably overkill.

Re: Considering a Thiele Cab
I'm a little more upbeat on the Thiele than Bill or Mac daddy. On the plus side, it's hard to get a bigger sound in such a small package and you can't beat a ported design for efficiency. With the right speaker, I think they can sound great. My complaints about the TL806 are that it because of it's ...

Re: next build - advice?
I've found the #183 circuit to be a particularly nice non-HRM implementation and I'd certainly recommend it. I haven't done a #102 yet though (that's next on the agenda), so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

You may find the .002uf a tad big even with a 1Meg control. I tried this a long time ago and settled on a .001 and 1Meg.

Re: Ry Cooder's "Borderline"?
Just based on the labeling of the controls, looks like a late classic (i.e. pre-mod #124ish) with tremolo added.

Re: Tube Depot's "The Button" trafo
That's what's in their 12AX7 based Button guitar pedal, so I would presume it is enough. IIRC, a 12AX7 draws about 1.5-2mA from the HV at around 200V on the plates, so it should do the trick.

Re: Suede Dumbles
Thanks for the help and suggestions everybody. Here's a head and 2X12 cab I just finished. Design was inspired by the Tom McGrath rig that Vintone did several years ago. I ended up using upholstery faux suede (still waiting the Alcantara I ordered three weeks ago to arrive. )
