And the Marshall 50Wer puts out way more than 50W from a pair of EL34s. 90W at 10% THD, if I remember right. So maybe it's only a perfectly clean 50W that's hard to get?
And the number of people after a Wreck that's clean at 60W must be pretty low, right?

Re: A single ended Trainwreck ?
Really? What a cool coincidence. I'm also building my TW Jr as a 'sleeper' in this old Keyboard 20 combo:chimeboss wrote:The DLM was a sleeper amp built into a small familar combo

Re: A single ended Trainwreck ?
Thanks guys. I didn't find any more info yet on the DLM, but that old thread is interesting for mentioning the brightness thing. My biggest question is whether the Wreck's brightness might be overpowering in an SE amp. Sammas - Does the Lucky 7 use the TW preamp? I've not seen/heard one in person (t...

Re: A single ended Trainwreck ?
Look through the archives at AX84... I could swear that someone did something similar over there... "-) That's where I saw the idea of having a fake PI - it cropped up in a thread over there about an single-ended SLO. So I've just slotted it into a minimal 'wreck design. Funkalicious - I'll see wha...

A single ended Trainwreck ?
Am I mad? A few threads on some other forums and a spare chassis with 2 noval and 1 octal sockets set me wondering about a 'Jr' version of the Trainwreck. This would have the usual Wreck preamp, and then a fake PI stage after the clipping stage. Then driving a SE EL34/6V6. I've just drawn up the bas...

I also agree about focussing on these rarer amps where there's more need to share info than F/M/V amps (which have great forum coverage elsewhere).
So I can't vote for either of those poll options

My semi-Liverpool is in a combo (an old '70s WEM). It's a pretty ugly build in an ugly cab, but it works

Re: Does anyone have a source for Perfboard?
Dana - here's a photo that shows the road I've been down. The strip in the centre is a 7x27 hole piece of the original RS stuff that Marshall used. That's the size for the 18W turret board. The tan-coloured squarish piece below it is some later material - different colour and different material but ...

Re: Does anyone have a source for Perfboard?
Interesting update, Dana. The stuff I am having made (slowly and painfully) is in the Marshall/RS style with holes spaced and sized differently to what you say Francesca's uses.

Re: Oscillations with my fuchs Lucky Seven...
I'm with Snapcase - Fuchs' rep pretty much rules out a design SNAFU, which points to a filter cap connection (possibly where it's grounded) being marginal.

Love it! I think I saw some of your bike parts once?
Inspiring stuff. Makes me wonder about trying a chassis as a single milled piece of aluminium.

Re: Parts source?
I need to check on whether Fran's power supply board is a cut-down version of the amp circuit board. The Radio Spares blanks were 21x27 holes, and Marshall then sliced them into 7-row (18W) or 8-hole (45W) strips - plus there was the odd power supply board for the first JTM 100Wers. Bad news is that...

Re: Parts source?
Shall do - I'd already specced them at JTM45 and 18W size. But I was amazed to see it used in Francesca. I still wonder how Ken got the stuff - I don't think it made it to the USA? Maybe he chopped up an old JTM45 for it!?
