Re: Steely Dan, it's time for a talk.

Being an old lit critic and philosophy of art major I say look at the internal evidence. Forget about what anybody SAYS listen to the song. It just doesn't sound like a "please be my guitar man mister" Do Rick D's friends call him Rikki in private? Really, I'm just asking. The other point you made t...

Re: Steely Dan, it's time for a talk.

So, Talbany; I read that amp review twice. There is no reference whatsoever to "Rikki" or to Steely Dan. ...The link to his amp on the VVT site has nothing to do with this discussion..Merely to point out that my company at the time worked with Rick Derringer for quite a while.. That's all Wel...

Re: Anybody remember using one of these?

Yup, apparently most of you are getting a tube tester. I got the wringer washer too. Grandma had one. Grandpa told me she got her tit caught in it once. I'm not sure if it was true. In those days when somebody said the word "tit" it would send me to the floor rolling around with laughter. Tits, wean...

Re: Steely Dan, it's time for a talk.

So, Talbany; I read that amp review twice. There is no reference whatsoever to "Rikki" or to Steely Dan. The article Martin linked is an interview with Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. So it's your contention that Donald is whispering sweet nothings like "I thought our little wild thing, had just beg...

Here's young Andrew Winton horsing around on the old Weissenborn. He's cut 'is bleeding' dreads off mate! He's wearin' a Marine Corps cut now. Semper Fi!

Re: To build or not to build

The Rockster is a Rocket with high wattage tubes. That's cathode biased! I almost swallowed my chew.... So I guess I never thought much about the Rocket eh?. Well now I need to look at the PI on the rocket to see what was done to raise the output to suit the EL-34 class tubes. I'll study it one day.

Re: To build or not to build

Little You've got an express you should try the rocket/rockster as your next build. It's a lot of fun and if you want a more versatile one go with the Rockster so you've got the octal tubes to play with. I put a PPIMV in mine and with the KT66 tubes it sounds great. Also takes to pedals really well...

Re: To build or not to build

This guy right here always made the best kit/collection of parts for Marshall clones. And he's a great guy to boot. I talked to him a couple of years ago and he had to get out of the kit business and get a real job due to lack of sales. I'm not sure what is going on today but he can for sure lead yo...

Re: What're you listening to right now??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnyeqyCiLdo We've been doing this Steely Dan thing with these talented but brutal taskmaster/slave drivers Fagen and Becker. Here's the diametrical opposite of Steely Dan I'm about 25 minutes into "Classic Albums" documentary on "The Band" albums. Wow, what a contrast ...

Re: And he plays guitar well too

Just watched the Aja video and was trolling for some info on Skunk Baxter when i came across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GRkCyvIz70 Interesting man. Good grief! I had NO idea. This is remarkable stuff man. I'm only about 20 minutes and I got to finish it later but it's stunning. Musical ...

Re: Steely Dan, it's time for a talk.

Making "Gaucho" for two years pretty much burned everyone involved out, as the production was more OCD than ever. Then the reviews on its release were tepid. That began the long hiatus before "Two Against Nature," which took a few Grammys. I like both of those albums as much as the early stuff. Her...
