Re: 50Hz vs 60Hz cycles - tonal impact?
We commonly have variations of more than 3Vac in our mains power voltage at different times of day. Unless you can actively regulate the voltage, you're going to get changes unless the UK is much better at keeping it constant than we are in my part of the USA. to this. You are correct, in the UK th...

Re: 50Hz vs 60Hz cycles - tonal impact?
The easiest and cheapest solution would be to set up a bucking transformer to drop the 120V down to 117. This could be done using a 6.3V filament transformer rated for say 3A. The 50Hz vs. 60Hz makes the amp's power transformer operate closer to saturation, i.e. makes the core looks small. If it do...

50Hz vs 60Hz cycles - tonal impact?
I am on a rabbit hole recently. I own a '65 Fender Bandmaster, blackface. It was built to operate at 117V, 60Hz. I am based in the UK, with 240V mains and 50Hz cycles. My step down transformer gets my voltage down to 120V but does not change the cycles. I had ordered a Brown Box some time back to ge...

Re: 3rd Gen started
It lives!!! I thought I had a bad PT. When firing it up I got 340V on the plates and it sounded horrendous. After a lot of head scratching and calls to friends I pulled the power board only to realize I had missed a jumper between the incoming B+ and the reservoir caps. First impressions: It has a ...

I tried to order from them. The communication was very difficult. Even calling it was hard getting my orders in. I gave up after 6 monthsWhopperPlate wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 4:15 pm They can make you anything https://guitarcabinetsdirect.com/

EVM 12L dust filter repair
Hi all, just wondering how would one repair the dust filter of a EVM 12L. Received the speaker today and left my 3 year old unattended for 3 seconds while I moved a can and boom, he managed to damage the thing, sigh

Re: Peavey Mace OT differences
Thanks Steve, yes the power tubes are 6x 6L6 on both iterations.
Makes sense! Thanks for the tip on the measurement, the only issue is that I do not have access to the 4/8ohms version

Peavey Mace OT differences
Hi all, I have been on a rabbit hole recently. I found out that Peavey changed the OT of the Mace over time. I know there were two versions as well, VT Series and 320T, although I've seen 4/8ohms OT taps on both versions Looks like some of the VT series were changed from 4/8 ohms version (pics and s...

Re: 6550 OT Primary Z Question
Many thanks all for the inputs, links and suggestions. Great reading material and food for thought. I sent a note to heyboer about their OT. Also I have been speaking to Hammond about their sunn PT, and for future reference they did a transformer based on someone's spec request and never had access ...
