Re: (almost) first build advice needed - TW inspired

problem fixed - i had wired the mains transformer backwards   i get 6.7VAC at the heaters now, and it seems to have more than enough current reserves to power both pre tubes and the EL34 heaters... am thinking of a way to wire up the power supply without using a board (very little space....

Re: (almost) first build advice needed - TW inspired

progress report... this build has gotten quite far already, pretty much the only thing that is remaining is the power supply, adding a bright switch and standby and wiring up the speaker jacks. now this is what i am rather worried about: i decided to give it a test run after completing the heater an...

Re: Meet Derek Ferwerda

wow.... these articles are truly awe-inspiring. i am possibly one of the younger people on this forum (27) and, having spent 19 of my 27 years in india, i have never got to hear a trainwreck in person, and know the sound only from glen's mindblowing music and various clips, which have been more than...

Re: (almost) first build advice needed - TW inspired

hey guys, thanks a lot for the tips. just to clarify - do i need to resize the schematic? didn't think it would pose much of a problem, but i didn't click andtest it myself either  if you think it'll help, i will be glad to redraw. jana, you need to come to mumbai, india to understand what RFI...

(almost) first build advice needed - TW inspired

hope this is the right section... hi to all from bombay, india i've been browsing around these forums for a while. after i recently had some success with an ultralinear EL84 hi-fi tube amplifier, i've decided to roll out another one, this time with an octal output section. the other project i'm work...

Re: there goes the neighbourhood...

there seems to be a fair amount of OEM tube amp manufacturing going on in china - scary part is, i played a couple of them at musikmesse, and they didn't sound too shabby at all. definitey NOT as good as a 2203, a überschall or a wreck... but FAR from bad. i distinctly remember one exhibitor called ...

Re: Voltage doubler? Unknown PT ratings.

R for the 6.3v won't tell you much. Five tubes is a decent number. I would assume the heater winding has at least 2A. The exception would be if there was a 6.3v rectifier, in which case, its rating is about 1A more. Jus tdon't look to put in a high mA Octal tube like KT66 or EL34. I doubt it will b...

Re: Voltage doubler? Unknown PT ratings.

Phil, thanks a LOT for your patience in writing out that long post! i admit it has gone a bit over my head, but i'm astounded as to how much i learn on these forums. i reallydon't remember the tube complement that well - there were about 5 tubes in the radio, o0ne of them was certainly an ECH81, ECL...

Re: Voltage doubler? Unknown PT ratings.

while we're on the topic of unknown PTs (WARNING: NOOB ALARM!) what would be the safest way to determine the current put out by the secondary of an unknown PT? i have this tranny i salvaged from a radio, and would like to do a 2 x 12AX7, 1xEL34 build sometime. dunno if the pT will stand up to it - t...
