Re: My new soldering station...

I am just a bit disapointed with the new Xytronic station I bought. It has the same pencil as the 379 unit I am replacing. While the digital readout looks cool, it doesn' mean a thing if you can't get it hot enough. What temperature do you guys set your iron for when soldering eyelets? I use Kester...

Re: My new soldering station...

Bruciep07 gets the eye spy WMLE award! Thanks for the links. Noel Grassy. You're welcome! What type of tips do you guys use on you iron? I only have very small pointed tips for mine; just over .5" long and come to a pointed tip. I tend to bend them slowly from applying pressure to turrets, so they ...

Re: Anyone done an Express PCB?

We kept the layput close but not exact. It uses 3 boards. One for the preamp with pots and power supply caps mounted to the board, One for the power tubes and associated components and one for the power supply. All tube sockets are mounted to the chassis and there is no heater wiring on the preamp ...

Re: Anyone done an Express PCB?

Yes, I have a PCB express prototype built and we are in the testing phase. Dana, Did you alter the component layout much? I made up a board in pcb express and basically just followed to standard layout, just replaced all the bus wire with solder traces. I haven't had any made though, figured someda...

Re: Z Wreck

Unfortunately I only have a handful of 12AX7s and most are used so I have not done a direct comparison to see if the 6N2P is truly noisier. We might want to start a new thread if there is more discussion. That's a great idea since we keep hijacking this thread, now everyone go out and buy some 6N2P...

Re: Z Wreck

Sound pretty good for $2 tubes :D I may just pick up some more before they get too hyped up, after all, these will be $50 tubes in 10 years... Seems the "Voshod Plant" tubes are the ones to look for, or at least that's what my 10min worth of research has told me. They have a sideways missile screene...

Re: Z Wreck

Bruce, http://tubes-store.com/ For the Russian type tubes. 6P14P-EV / 7189A / 6BQ5 / EL84M tube Thanks Mark, I actually have 10 or so Reflector 6P14P-EV's that I picked up for just a couple bucks a year or so ago. Un-matched in white boxes, but I sent them to Selloutrr to test for me, I haven't tou...

Re: Z Wreck

Maybe it is the choke I used, Hammond 158L 15hy, but my wreck build stays very clean to about 3 pm on the volume knob. I might try a different choke to see how that interacts. Have it switched from 260 to 300v HT Heyboer 5199 and 4k3 Heyboer which is not M6 steel so all the differences in component...

Re: Group Buy/Quantity Discount Pricing

Bruce, Have you checked out Ken Watts' new double turrets? See here: http://turretboards.com/circuit_board_terminals.htm The ones that I currently have appear to be the exact same spec as Keystone 1509-4, although I thought at one time I had received some that had even a larger I.D. The ones I have...

Re: Group Buy/Quantity Discount Pricing

Doug Hoffman sells high quality turrets for $0.11 ea. in x1,000 quantities. Thanks, I hadn't tried Hoffman's turrets before, I'll have to pick some up... That being said, I like the keystone double turrets, they're big and sturdy and take multiple leads without much trouble. But this isn't limited ...

Group Buy/Quantity Discount Pricing

This is something that I'd thought about posting before and wondered if anyone else had ever considered doing this. I was starting to put together a Mouser order for some items that I use a lot, turrets, 450V caps, jacks, tests points, etc... The turrets were the first thing to jump out at me, Keyst...

Re: Time to bite the bullet...

The least expensive new scope I've found so far is this

www.saelig.com/PSBEB100/PSSA002.htm

Mf'd by owon, model #PDS5022S. It's got a 25MHz bandwidth, 100MS/s sample rate, 300V p-p max input voltage, etc... $287...

Re: Time to bite the bullet...

And that's sort of the issue, I'm not really sure what my best option is, I've never personally owned a scope before, don't remember what brand we had in school, I really would just be perfectly happy with something that gave me decent enough resolution to compare outputs from different gain stages ...
